I liked it very much, especially at the beginning. Sometimes Jones gets a bit caught up in her endings. Her pacing can be uneven as you get down to it. Even an expected and welcome happy ending can feel overdone.
What she does do well is cast enjoyable characters behaving simply and humorously. Despite my original bother that this wasn't a direct sequel to Howl's Moving Castle, I found myself enjoying Abdullah and the other characters far more than the direct descendants of HMC. She has a gift w ...more

4.5 stars. I'll be contrary and give it a slightly higher rating than 'Howl's Moving Castle' itself. I do so partly because this one's plot is more straightforward and less random and confusing, and also partly because romance is more a central concern, and that always sways me. Plus, bonus points for Abdullah's special brand of eloquent politeness, which he uses to tact up his natural (and equally appealing) young-guy impatience. Any girl would jump on a magic carpet with him.
