I really have mixed feelings about this book! Parts of it I liked...and I liked a lot of the characters. However....the author could have made this a shorter book...she's very repetitive! I felt like the Clan acted like cave people some of the times...gestures and thoughts on sex and childbirth were very fitting, but the conversations and many thoughts were very "today" and it made the book awkward for me. The Clan of the Cave Bear was...entertaining. It must have been. I read it in less than a week. That's fast for me.

It tells the story of Ayla, a little girl who loses her mother in an earthquake and comes to live with "the clan." Some of them love her. Some of them don't. We see her stuggle to fit in and to adapt to clan traditions. We see them struggle to understand her differences, physical and mental, and accept her in their society.

Engrossing but I had a few problems.
