*This review considers American Psycho alongside Brief Interviews with Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace.

Last year, I was interested to read Bret Easton Ellis's attack on David Foster Wallace, an author of the same era who has, since his suicide in 2008, risen in status to contemporary literary master and hipster favourite. Reading this book was like wading through raw sewage up to my nostrils, except, unlike Jean Valjean, I came out the other side with nothing to show for it.

This novel is extremely graphic, insightful and brutally honest! A satirical portrait of the modern man, American Psycho is a must read for anybody with a strong stomach as well as a wicked sense of humor.
