Shelves: challenge-back-to-the-classics-2017, challenge-ultimate-popsugar-2017, read-classics

I know this is deemed a Classic, and the writing has been compared to Charlotte Bronte's book, Jane Eyre which I dearly loved as a teenager. But I just could not get into Rebecca or the drama of the narrator. I found her tedious and melodramatic. I just could not see Maxim de Winter falling in love with her, nor could I believe that a person could undergo such a vast personality change as occurred in her in just four months. I made it about a 100 pages and recognized that I was forcing myself to read - a bad sign. (I actually stood in the kitchen and watched an hours worth of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure instead of returning to my book). Perhaps it was because I knew the outcome, or perhaps at this moment in my life I have no patience for creaky slow moving old tales (I also hated Woman in White a few weeks ago).
