What Members Thought

I listened to the audiobook, and it is hands down one of the all time best audiobook performances I’ve listened to. In fact I don’t think I’d have liked this book as much if I’d just read it. But it really captured me and I loved the story and the characters. I feel like I fell in love with so many of the characters and the voice actors played them so well. I was so sad it was a fictional band and I couldn’t listen to the Aurora album.

I really didn't expect to love this book. It's about the seventies rock scene...major drugs, sleeping around, crazy relationships... but I did. Right time, right book. The structure of the book is a series of interviews. It's very strange when you find out the identity of the narrator. I didn't expect it to matter, but it definitely does. The characters are very human and come to life as the book explodes. These singers were based on the singers I loved in my twenties...Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitche

The format of this book really worked for me because it is written like a transcript of an interview. This style of writing kept me engaged as the dialogue jumped between the 7 members of the band - it feels very "Behind the Music". Taylor Jenkins Reid did a wonderful job of capturing the 70s rock era and paints a picture of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll (and feminism, too). I loved Karen's storyline.

I would not recommend reading this book, you have to listen to the audio version!! I started reading it, and it was good but then the audio version became available through the library and it was so much more fascinating. It’s read by Jennifer Beals who is a spot-on Daisy and Judy Greer who’s perfect as Karin and a bunch of other actors who bring this story of a seventies rock band from LA to life. I’m so curious to hear what their songs would really sound like!

Listen to the audio for this one - full cast and really well done!

I really loved The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and worried this book would be a disappointment but wow. It was great. I love that the author chose such a unique story-telling format to bring her crock band to life, and then the revelation as to who is doing the interviewing…it was just a really well-executed and entertaining read.

This has to be one of the greatest audiobooks I've ever listened to. The vocal cast was amazing! Thank you Daisy Jones for getting me through a really long and frustrating work day.
