One extra star to the illustration because it is wonderful. It added a certain vibe that made the story more magical. I love it!!!
The story itself is pretty engaging. It has twists and turns that are different than your usual fairy tales. But this is Neil Gaiman, so it is not at all surprising, right? :)
It has the elements of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, with some dark gory details and unusual ending. It's great, actually. I wish Geiman will write more crazy fairy tales like this, and of cour ...more

August 2019;
This was definitely an odd, interesting little retelling of Sleeping Beauty, with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves as the heroes of that tale. I do love how it was slowly revealed who she was (and I did laugh at how quickly she /"The Queen" ditches getting married in favor of running out in the countryside, and another country to do some saving and fixing of the world). That, aside, though, I wasn't all that in love with the prose, or the plot, even with Neil reading it himself. ...more

Beautifully illustrated and wonderfully written, this is a true fairy tale treasure. I've always had a special place in my heart for the old stories, and this keeps true to their spirit and weight while still being fresh and engaging. This is probably the most beautiful book in my library right now.

Nice fairy tale
I loved the queen and the dwarves. The way they went on the adventure and that twist at the end. The artwork was beautiful and a shade creepy, but suited the story.
