I was happy at the beginning to be sucked into a book because I was reading another book that I couldn’t get into. As anyone who spends time on Facebook has to admit, voyeurism can be a bit addicting. I was at first intrigued by the mystery, and enjoyed the unreliable narrator since Rachel couldn’t remember what happened when she’d been drinking. As she started to get back memories and realized she’d been lied to about some of the things she’d done while drunk, I was expecting a lot more interes ...more

This hit close to home for me, for one simple reason. I've been known to do what Rachel does from the train each morning, though not with one specific person. I make up stories to fit the people I see when I'm traveling. There's one woman I remember, years later now, for whom I had an entire backstory by the time I'd come to the end of our very long journey. She was beautiful, seemed sad, and was lost in her own thoughts - for all I know, she was putting together a backstory for me.

I previously tried to read the kindle version of this book and gave up after about 10% of the text.

Jarring transitions that felt clunky and confusing in print were handled quite skillfully by the narrator and with important pauses that made them easier to go with. Also, hearing the description of the shifting emotional state of the narrator as she desc

This was a fast-paced, quick read--definitely junk food and definitely lots of swearing, etc--but I really loved the ending. I have been watching more mysteries lately, and it's good escapism. I can't believe this one is so high up on the bestseller list, but it's pretty entertaining. ...more

I read this in about a day, so it was good in that way. But, the characters were just too disturbed for me. Left me feeling too icky in the end.

Great start, then the story got bogged down IMO. Not the best on the year.

This was a quick entertaining read. A mystery page turner. If you are looking for some mental distraction this will fit the bill.
