I was happy at the beginning to be sucked into a book because I was reading another book that I couldn’t get into. As anyone who spends time on Facebook has to admit, voyeurism can be a bit addicting. I was at first intrigued by the mystery, and enjoyed the unreliable narrator since Rachel couldn’t remember what happened when she’d been drinking. This hit close to home for me, for one simple reason. I've been known to do what Rachel does from the train each morning, though not with one specific person. I make up stories to fit the people I see when I'm traveling. There's one woman I remember, years later now, for whom I had an entire backstory by the time I'd come to the end of our very long journey. She was beautiful, seemed sad, and was lost in her own thoughts - for all I know, she was putting together a backstory for me.

I previously tried to read the kindle version of this book and gave up after about 10% of the text.

This time around, it was selected by a book club, so I picked up the audio version. The audio is definitely the best way to experience this book. Jarring transitions that felt clunky and confusing in print were handled quite skillfully by the narrator and with important pauses that made them easier to go with. This was a fast-paced, quick read--definitely junk food and definitely lots of swearing, etc--but I really loved the ending. I have been watching more mysteries lately, and it's good escapism. I can't believe this one is so high up on the bestseller list, but it's pretty entertaining. ...more

Tardé un rato en entrar en la historia porque la protagonista no me permitió conocerla hasta unos capítulos después. Y una vez que sentí empatía por ella, fue muy difícil que no me afectara lo que le pasaba: iba de mal en peor y no parecía que nadie pudiera ayudarla.
