This is a very good book. I read it while we were on vacation in Houston. I read some at the galleria while waiting for my family and cried and cried at the Starbucks there. Truly terrifying. I think that most people should read this to catch a glimpse of what human beings are capable of enduring and the evil that we apparently have the capacity for containing within ourselves.
i don't know why i don't rate this book higher. i think because i had read so many survivor testimonies (yes, even in 8th grade) that i wasn't as . . . shocked at the story as i could have been. for most people, aside from anne frank, this is the first book they read about auschwitz. it's their first introduction to the horrors of the concentration camp.

Amazing, amazing book. read this in parallel with Slaughterhouse Five, and this was a million times better. The comparison probably has something to do with how much I loved this book, but I am really glad I saw this on one of my friend's lists and decided to give it a try.

I can't believe I've never read this book. Short, powerful, heartbreaking. A must-read for everyone, not just those of us who have had family who experienced this.

I first read this in high school, I picked it up in college, and I'm sure I'll reread it in the future. It's a book that everyone should read, whether you're interested in the Holocaust or not.

A marvelous book, although certainly not the best or final word on the Holocaust.
