"He puts the killing thing in his mouth but doesn't give it the power to kill him." This is my absolute favorite thing from this book, and it has nothing to do with the idea of cancer itself. We, as humans, are able to make the best or the worst of a situation. We either GIVE it (cancer, in this case) power over us, or we can TAKE it away.

This is a 4 instead of a five because Augustus' "metaphorical resonances" really irritated me as did that stupid author of that book they both loved -- Peter Van Houten -- he was really annoying. Otherwise I loved this book.

I may be in the minority, but I did not love this book. I found it easy to read and I do think that John Green is a talented writer, but this book just did not resonate with me. I recently read The End Of Your Life Book Club and found that to be more to my liking if comparing books in which the characters have cancer and the end is known before you even start the book. Maybe, I struggled with this book as I identified more with the parents than the main characters. I would read more by John Gree
