What Members Thought

“They want to believe that magic is nothing but clever deception, because to think it real would keep them up at night, afraid of their own existence.”
This is one of those books I was ambivalent about before I started it. I had seen both good and bad reviews of it, so I had placed it in the “eh, maybe I’ll get to it someday” section of my TBR list. Turns out, “someday” was the end of December, as it was chosen for the January read in my book club. And my fears were unfounded. Once I started read ...more

The most beautiful novel I've read in what seems like ages.

This book was fantastic. It was so different from anything I'd read. The writing was strong and so was the plot. The characters were brilliant and deep and it was just an overall great story. I was sad to see it end.

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I listened to the audio book which has a spectacular reader and I absolutely could not get enough of this story. I was hooked almost instantly. This novel is vibrant and descriptive and yes, magical. I have been waiting for a novel this good, one that inspired and intrigued me so I could tell all of my friends to read it and this is definitely that book.
It begins rather cryptically and maintains a bit of mystery until the very end. I loved ...more

The Night Circus is a charming novel; it's not fast-paced or full of action but more of a slow, gentle love story that has an inevitable ending. I loved getting to explore the circus and meeting all of its performers; I definitely envisioned a Tim Burtonesque atmosphere.

I started listening to this a few months ago (Jim Dale, need I say more) but I got really confused with all the time switching so I gave up. Luckily, our book group chose this book and I gave it another shot. What an amazing book! The imagery is so beautiful and the story is completely unique. I couldn't put it down. A must read!!

A beautiful story, beautifully told. With only one book author Morgenstern has earned a place on my must-read list. I can't wait to see what she does next.
