I went in going....oh, it's going to be a kids book but the trailer for the movie looked good, so thought, why not read it. And boy am I glad I did. There is such a childlike quality to it. And I mean that in a good way. I was lucky to be taken away from all the negatives in the "real" world and just get lost in this world. And the old photos mingled throughout in the book, wonderful. Really liked this story and the way it was enhanced with all the photographs the author found in old dusty bins in antique stores, second hand cash shops, flea markets, etc. I'm very glad I bought a copy of this book; this is a keeper. ...more

More on this when we discuss this in the book club, but I really loved this book a lot, and I was skeptical of reading this. This book was very original, and it was very imaginative like a book that I had never read before.

I very much liked the writing. I finished this book some time ago but the scenes have stayed with me. I will be reading the sequels at some point. They were very inventive.
