I rated this only a 3.5 out of 5.0. It was a powerful story to be sure, but a little weird and hard to get into.

Did I enjoy it? The beginning was kind of weirdly written, but I was pretty hooked by the second half and liked it overall.
Would I read it again? I would like to. I think it's the type of book that would improve with subsequent readings once you're more familiar with the basic plot.
Who would I recommend it to? I don't have a specific type of person who I think would like this, so I don't know. I would probably recommend it to a couple of my friends but not for any particular reason, just because ...more

This book was beautiful and deep, though completely sorrowful. It wasn't what I was expecting; up to this point I'd only read The Bluest Eye, which had a narrower scope and lacked the magical realism of Beloved. ...more
