I almost cut one star for the pain the ending gave me but I gave it back because making me feel so much is again author's talent. The ending though may sting people but it is the right one because it is the way Tris would go. Also author's decision to switch to twin narrative seemed a little off to me at the beginning but towards and mid and end it seemed perfect as that way we were able to face two different scenarios at the same time. Okay. Let me process everything.

As I set out to read this book, I had high expectations because I had just finished reading Insurgent (Second book). It began fine and I liked the way it included Tobias's perspective too this time but I started getting bored soon, since not much was happening soon after they left the city.

But well. It was a lot of things towards the end.

The last twenty or so chapters were extremely quick and happening, and I hate a lot of deaths in the book, of the people I had s Okay. Let me process everything.

As I set out to read this book, I had high expectations because I had just finished reading Insurgent (Second book). It began fine and I liked the way it included Tobias's perspective too this time but I started getting bored soon, since not much was happening soon after they left the city.

But well. It was a lot of things towards the end.

The last twenty or so chapters were extremely quick and happening, and I hate a lot of deaths in the book, of the people I had started liking very much and was looking forward to what happened to them towards the end of the book, but I finally gave it 3 stars because of the end--especially the Epilogue.

And now for the SPOLIERS!

Though Tris dies and the invincible heroine we'd all become so used to during the trilogy, that I didnt think anything would happen to her (especially when she defied death serum too), I was especially aggrieved at the death of Uriah. He (and his brother Zeke) had become two of my favourite characters throughout the series, mostly because they were inclined upon finding to joke about a thing or two whenever they were around and change the mood of the whole setting. (Though, thank God Zeke is safe and cheerful till the end). Also, I was beginning to feel hopeful about Uriah and Christina because of both having faced death of their loved ones. But looks like the author was bent upon not providing them any of happiness to cherish for.

And again, about Tris's death, I didnt sadden me as much as thinking about Tobias after her did. The way his whole world shattered in front of him. Tris was never my 'favourite' character (though her final sacrifice for Caleb made up for everything else)but viewing her death from Tobias's perspective, like he didnt have anything to linger on and trying to giving up all his memories so that he's as good as dead was pretty painful to read. But towards the end, he is finally trying to adjust in his life without Tris.

Moreover, Tori (another decent character dies) and well, Lynn has already died in the second book. I was wondering why the author was so bent upon killing or breaking all the good ones in one way or the other in her trilogy, while all the twisted minds like Marcus, Peter, Caleb, Evelyn (no matter whether they've changed their tracks or not) survive till the very end. That was a pure disappointment.

But again, on a positive note, I loved how the final scene ends, where all the remaining of the friends are together and happy, and have started to settle in the new way of life. The imagery was so powerful, I could almost witness the whole scene in front of my eyes.

So it's a mix feeling of sadness and tranquillity after the finishing of trilogy. Sigh.

As far as books go this one isn't bad. I reccomend it to people who want to finish the Divergent series. I personally found the Divergent books went downhill after the first one. I might just be mad about the ending though. Overall this is my least fav book in the series. Don't take my word for it though. Disapointing endings just make me upset. ...more
