Maze Runner has an intriguing premise. Readers start out with a blank slate—or nearly—in the teenage character of Thomas. Thomas awakens in an elevator-like box, unable to remember anything personal about himself aside from his name. He is then thrust into a contained farm-like environment with somewhere around sixty other boys who've all been inflicted with the same amnesic condition by forces the boys refer to as the “Creators.”

Another YA series and another home run, The Maze Runner is the 1st series of 4 books by 'James Dashner'. It's the story of Thomas who finds himself without memories in a box/lift which drops him to a strange place called Glade where he finds only boys almost his own age. They have lived there for 2 years and they are surrounded by a maze. Thomas wakes up and wants to be a Runner, Gladers who run through Maze tracing the route and mapping it in order to find the exit. This is a fast-paced, easy read. I can see some of the criticisms about character development and writing style, but if you watch the film after reading the book, you'll have more appreciation for the book. The book had enough mystery and suspense to keep me entertained...

Why are these kids put into a maze?
What happened to their memories?
How are they going to escape?
If they do escape, what awaits them?

This book was a captivating read. It definitely kept my attention. Interesting ideas presented throughout. I did find the ending fell short a bit and I am not as excited to read the next two books in the series.
