970 Welcome Mel. I think you will find many here happy to discuss books with you. It can be a lot like a book club. Certainly a good addition to one if/when you are able to get out into FL and find something local as well.

I am part of two book clubs. We took precautions and began meeting again after the first 6 months or so of quarantine. What can I say? we all missed it...
970 Time to discuss!

970 Welcome Sid_rw,

I also like that the LIST allows me to prioritize my reading choices. One reason I like lists in general.

970 Starting Sodom and Gomorrah by Marcel Proust. Book four of In Search of Lost Time.

970 Finished my second reading of The Cider House Rules by John Irving. It's a great book. Also a good choice for a book club if your other members don't mind a long read. So much to talk about in this book.

I don't know about that. Karen is overdoing it on the niceness... making the rest of us look bad... :P

970 Welcome Kimberly. Glad to have you on board. The prior discussions will stay active so post on them whenever you have thoughts.

Haha. I like that. We will likely actually be on the same page at some point.

970 Update

N - New York - Chess Story - 3/9/21

For such a short novel it sure has a lot of settings. Especially considering the bulk of the action takes place aboard a ship on the Atlantic Ocean (Scavenger Hunt qualifier!) But they start their journey in New York.

970 Chess Story by Stefan Zweig. A very short and easy to read piece. It didn't grab me the way some of the shorter works on the list did. But I still enjoyed it.

970 Book club chose The Cider House Rules by John Irving this month. So am beginning my second read.
970 Hamida in Midaq Alley. I found her irritating. Then I felt sorry for her. Then I found her irritating again.... You will see. Wonder if you will agree

970 I finished March's read, Midaq Alley by Naguib Mahfouz. More about that later.

I had not really paid any attention to this book. These two volumes total about 1300 pages right? Should this be added to the list of 1000+ page books? Is the whole thing on Boxall's LIST? the one I was tracking is a 336 page (apparently) EXACT reproduction. Anybody shed some light for me?

I never realized until just now that Alice and Dallas rhyme!!

Welcome Alice!
