970 Hi! I am Sean. I live in Sunny San Diego, California. I began reading from one list or another since I was in high school. It began my love of lists and classic lit. When I found Boxall's list it was a perfect fit for what I had been reading, and I was very happy that it was getting periodic updates (let's hope they continue).

I will be your group-read moderator. Love to see everybody join in.

Happy reading everybody.

Great explanation David. Thank you

One thing to be aware of, this list has one error. There should be only 1315 books. This list contains Le Neveu de Rameau and the combo book: Rameau's Nephew / D'Alembert's Dream. It seems to have been inadvertatly duplicated.

970 Actually, If you want to put Cheese in the right place it should be 432. That would fix everything. Giving it the title and making it 432.

970 Fantastic. Thank you Karen.

I found a couple things you might want to update. I started looking because there should only be 1315.

In the # column, 432 is missing. When you adjust all the numbers, you will get Winter as #1314. Then the one at the bottom (original title: "Kaas" (when sorting by #) has a blank title and no #. It becomes 1315. The title should be "Cheese".

Next quarter we will be back to voting here on GR. Thank you to everybody who was patient with us during this transition.

Following behind you. I just finished The Big Sleep. I will be starting Farewell, My Lovely soon, but I have a few book club books to knock out first.

Now I can see where all the comparisons came from in the Red Harvest thread. Definitely able to compare and contrast moral ideals. I loved the slang in this book too. Although a slightly different set than that Hammett used.
970 I really enjoyed this historical fiction. Seems I have been reading a lot about his time period of late. But I had yet to hear about it from the Habsberg side of it. The story within the history was also a great read.

From the grandfather to the grandson, the whole life of the von Trotta's is cyclical. Not to mention the many parallels throughout the book.

Masterfully described, the decline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was eminent and it felt like it was all tied to this family in one way or another.

970 After all the talk about Raymond Chandler's Marlow, on the Red Harvest group thread, I decided to start The Big Sleep.

970 I just finished The Radetzky March by Joseph Roth. More in the group read thread.

970 I did notice the differences with the poll. On the next poll thread (if we have to do it this way again come March (I hope we don't)), I will post the options on the first post along with the vote link so we can see them afterwards. I can also post the results link now. That will be the link to click if you want to see how the voting is going.

The only things that will now be different is that you won't be able to change your vote like you could on the GR poll, and you won't be able to see who voted for what. That's what this threadl is for, if you would like to share.

It'll be great to have you here. Be sure to let us know which ones you are reading and which ones you finish. And don't forget the name of the book! You MUST read them. Not "should" read them, or "might wanna" read them. YOU MUST! (musty or not...)

Hoopla is great. Every library should join.

970 Great news. I have not heard from them yet. But we only need one of us to get a foot in the door.
