I understand it can be read as a standalone.

UpdateY - YMCA - Everything That Rises Must Converge: Stories - 7/8/21
The title story sets the YMCA as a destination for the two main characters.
Many of the stories in Everything That Rises Must Converge take place on farms. One in particular features a bull who plays a crucial role. This is in addition to the birds on the covers of at least two editions.
Finished Everything That Rises Must Converge: Stories by Flannery O'Connor. All great stories. Southern Gothic at its finest.
However, Szerokie Morze Sargassowe was set north of the equator and Jean Rhys was from north of the equator.
