By the way, how are you doing? I know you said that it was "minor" but any surgery takes it out of you.

I think it is time we all had a talk. I am speaking to all of you who insist on putting up tacky light displays in your yards this time of year. Now, some of you do a fine job. The lights are neatly strung, all bulbs are lit, you have a theme and it's not too busy. You can ignore this. This is for those of you who feel that if it's a string of lights, it goes up. For those of you who feel that 12 inflatables in your postage stamp size yard is not enough. If you feel that it's just not Christmas with out putting up some kind of seizure inducing decoration, LISTEN UP!
Light displays fall into 1 of the following categories:
1) Pleasing Design
This entails just candles in the windows, just a spot light, or any other neat display that contains lights of the same size, and colors that compliment each other. Lawn decorations such as inflatables, light up figures or other some such are at a minimum, and tastefully placed. This is your ultimate goal.
2) Too Busy
PLEASE people! Try to avoid this one. Yes, Virginia, you can have too many Santa Clauses or other decorations. LESS IS MORE!
3) PICK A THEME!
This occurs when it is thought to be a good idea to put up strings of lights because they are stings of lights. Do not put clashing colors or hideously tinted lights up together. Plan it out! Do one bush in one color, repeat the pattern, but for the love of all that is decent, PICK A THEME!
4) WHAT IN THE F**** WERE YOU THINKING!
This combines all of the what not to do's. This is what happens when you place hideous colors and sizes together with over crowding. This also includes flashing/chasing/dancing lights or displays that make music. This is when you need serious help! If your friend regularly question your taste, DON'T PUT UP LIGHTS WITHOUT CONSULTING SOME ONE WHO HAS TASTE!
If every one would plan out what they are going to do, test you lights BEFORE hanging them up, think about what colors actually occur in nature, and plan out what will fit neatly in your yard, then light displays will be the lovely idea they were meant to be.
Thank you.

I thought that we should have a place to share what is happy and to ask for good thoughts when we need them. I would like to welcome Jett Alexander who was born on Nov.5, 2009, to a family I sometimes sit for. He is healthy and happy.

Of course! Good health and luck!

I am a pacifist. That being said, I would like to make the local weather people into pinatas. Some of you may be familiar with the geography of the Lake Erie shore line where Cleveland, Ohio is located. For those of you not, here's a brief idea. West of the city, we get snow, but not as much as East of the city, and the counties that direction. We may get a few inches, when they will get a foot. I kid you not. It is the curve of the lake. We call it the snow belt.
In the summer we have humidity and winter, snow. Happens EVERY F'ing year, yet, the weather people insist on acting like we have never had weather here before. They act like one flake of snow and the world is going to end. I repeat, it happens EVERY F'ing year! We joke we have 2 seasons here, winter and orange barrel. We get it, it snows. We have to shovel, blow, plow, what have you.
It's Cleveland. We get snow in September. (Any World Series fans will remember Bob Ucher's stunned voice.) Indians fans know that Opening Day in April can have snow (1 year ago, they were using leaf blowers to clear the field...)
Why do the weather people act like the world is coming to an end? I say we fit them with mild electric shockers and when they flip for now reason, we can shock 'em....
Maybe I just need a vacation....

Narzain and I were having one of our usual conversations, that rarely stay on the topic at hand, the other day. He made the comment that sometimes he can be a dip-sh**. I said that he can't help it, since he's a guy. He said that he suffers from P.D.S. ; Periodic Dip-sh** Syndrome.
I laughed so hard, I almost fell off the bed.
So, do you think we need a telethon for a cure?

I have found when I watch movies that won all sorts of awards, that I normally don't like them and/or understand them. Exceptions to this are rare, i.e. "Driving Miss Daisy" and "The Queen". Does anyone else have that problem, or do you seek out award winners?

That's o.k. I figured that's what you meant. I wanted to clear up any misunderstaning for anyone not paying attention in the future. :)
On a side note, we are in the process of welcoming Tara and Yumi to the family. So far, Willow, our remaining mouse, is o.k. with Tara, but she and Yumi have had a few dust ups. Today, things seemed a little calmer. Tara even accepted a baby Goldfish cracker from me last night and this morning! Yay!

Psst! Narzain's my boyfriends user name. Inara and Buffy are the mice.....:(

He's a public figure who SURPRISE! can't keep his pants zipped! If any of us did this, no one would care except those of us who are affected directly. I say leave the 2 of them to figure out what they want to do, and live with the consequences. I hope she gets what she deserves, provided that she is innocent in all of this....

I tried that show when it started, but I could never get into it. I guess I wasn't the right demographic for it.

I hope all of you had a good Thanksgiving yesterday and that those of you who work retail survive today unscathed. We had a bittersweet day yesterday. Some of you know that Narzain and I are boyfriend/girlfriend off site. Yesterday, we lost Inara, one of our pet mice, and both of us are taking it hard. I know some of you may say "it's just a mouse", but they are our pets, and to us, they are like having a dog or cat.
I never had a pet growing up, but now I have (at Narzain's) a mouse named Buffy, and one named Willow. Inara was Willows cage mate when we selected then 7 months ago. Buffy is not in great health, and is about 1 year and 9 months old. I will be devestated when her time comes, because it will be the first time I have lost a pet that was mine.
I hope you will bear with me as I deal with this, and remember us this week as Inara joins the earth in my back yard under a nice pine tree. She will be missed.
Update to this:
As of 12/01/09, I lost Buffy. She went quietly with dignity. I am not handling this well.

My mom saw the movie. She likes "The DaVinci Code" movie as well, but she has not read the books. She's a good one for that. She only reads a few select authors when she reads at all. Me, I read the books and see the movies. But, then again, I read an average of 6 books/week....

All I can say is to keep doing what you can to help the environment and hope that if enough of us do it, then companies will finally have to realize that we are NOT made of money. Just the other day, there was an article in my paper saying that federal forecasters are predicting gasoline prices to be at or around $3/gallon again this summer as crude barrel prices could near or top $80 as countries like China recover from the economic down turn.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this what contributed to the majority of the economic disaster in the first palce?! People lost jobs and businesses shut down due to the rising cost of fuel, and now just as the economy is starting to show signs that it may be ready to bounce back, it goes to Hades in a hand basket all over again just because some greedy oil overlord isn't happy with making 3 trillion dollars instead of 6 trillion?!
Where does this stop? Are we heading back to the days of feudal lords and serfs? Sorry, little cranky here. My job depends on people working and part of my job entails taking the kids places, so if most of my salary goes for gas.....how I am I supposed to survive?
We keep having to do more and more with less and less. Money needs to go further and further, yet companies keep raising prices and cutting package sizes to keep up profits, yet we are not getting raises, or bonuses.
How are we supposed to survive if we can barely take care of basic needs?

I have noticed that boys either are late readers or non-readers in general. My late father was a grand exception to that rule, as he was a vast and voracious reader from a young age. I am not saying that girls read more or what have you, but I have noticed over the years that boys seem to live in their own imaginations for quite sometime before they seem ready to let somebody else do the imagination set up for them.

That's why I can't listen to audio book and drive. I get too caught up. 5peasinapod- good to see you back! I missed our discussions!:)

I am so pissed off at the electric company! The electric company we have here in my area of Ohio, is called First Energy. Recently, they had the BRILLIANT idea of giving all customers 2 CFL light bulbs, whether you want them or not, so that they (the company) can comply with new rules set up by the state to lower consumer consumption and hopefully cost. Then the company said that they were going to charge every customer $21.00+ per year to pay for the light bulbs, which you can by for about $3.00 a piece on your own. The PUCO, which is supposed to protect consumers, threw a fit. So now the plan is to only give bulbs to customers who want them, but we are all getting a rate increase.
Now the latest is if you lower your consumption, they will now tack on a charge at the end of the year to "keep the company even". So, if you are trying to save the planet, and lower your bill, they are going to screw you to the wall anyway!
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to add Karen Marie Moning and her "Fever" series to the list. The last one is due out next year. It follows the story of MacKayla Lane who's sister is murdered in Dublin. Mac goes to investigate and finds our that she is able to see through Fae glammour and can sense and find Fae objects. The Fae of the Unseelie type are crossing into our world and....that's all I can say without giving too much away.

Narz and I watched "Doubt" this weekend and it is a !@#$ ! good movie. Highly recomomended.

Ahh, Shultz. No matter how jadded I become, I still watch that every year. I think it reminds me of how simple "C" can be... every year it's the same thing. I'm a sheppard...(sorry, fave line)
