8575 Grandma is doing much better. She has physical and occupational therapies twice a day. She finaly got to have her hair done and she looks SO much better! She looks like grandma. Her color is good and so are her spirits. They are teaching her how to use her cane to her advantage when she walks and gets up from her seat. They are also teaching her how to reach for things so that she can keep her balance better. Medicare pays for 20 days, so she will be home soon.

On the other hand, please keep my friend Connie and her mom, Flo in your prayers and thoughts. Her mom went into the hospital on Wed. evening with high blood pressure. As of last night, they were waiting for results from a test, so as of now, I don't know the cause. Her mom has Bells Palsy, but they don't think this is related.

8575 I have to pay for my local rec. center, so this is why the GoFit! program is a start for me. The Y has water classes too, but I have to wait for my evaluation to be done before I can do anything. There are scholarships that may be available to participants when the program is over, so I am hopefull that will happen.

8575 I am not allowed to use machines yet. My doctor told me to stick to water exercise, walking tracks, treadmills or elipitical for now. He said that when that becomes easy, we can disucss me using machines. He is worried about 2 injuries I have had to my shoulder and neck. This only for 3 months if I can't get a scholarship, so I am not getting to carried away. I hope to be able to walk away with a few things I can do at at home to keep up with being active.

8575 As of 8 last night, and why it HAD to be at that time, she was transfered to a skilled care facility about 3 minutes from my house. She wants to do this and my mom is positive she will go back to her home for at least a little while longer. She wants to have physical thearapy and she wants to be stronger.

My mom and I are only children and my mom and grandma are the only close family I have left. My dad's dad passed when I was 2 and my mom's dad passed in 1996, in a nursing home. He went in one because he had M.S. My dad's mom passed 3 years ago today, 13 days short of her 90th birthday, while in a nursing home. She was in it for less than a year. Sure she had congestive heart failure, smoked, and had a triple bypass, and lived in a VERY rural area, but she was VERY indepentdent, and I think that being in a home is what made her give up.

I know that she's fine, and that assisted living may ultimately be the right choice, but I'm scared. What if taking away her independence like that makes her give up? I saw her in the hospital this weekend, and I was stunned to see how small she looked in the bed. I watched her walk with the nurse to the bathroom, and was stunned to see how tiny she was. She did't look like my grandma, but more like some little old lady.

My grandma has always worn a girdle , so her posture is pretty good when she has it on,she always wears shoes, and she wraps her knees with cloth "braces" to help with the arthritits. She was in a hospital gown and those footies with the treads. She did't look like herself. I guess that's what scared me the most, that she looked so frail and delicate...

sorry, I' can't finish this thought right now.

8575 My grandma went back into the hospital on Friday. They did NOT give her enought time to recover and now my mom is talking to grandma about going into assisted living. I'm a mess right now.

8575 Grandma is home as of yesterday. She is on the weak side, but the hospital said that she is too mobile. Meaning she's too independent.

8575 I will be going to the Y as they have more activities for me and better hours for my friend to go with me. Narzain has also registered and will be doing the program with me as soon as we get on the waiting list.

8575 O.K. I have good nes on the grandma front. Her tests revealed that she has age related diverticulitis and gastritis. Her bleeding was due to a hemorroid. She is cancer free (a fear that was had due to the sudden bleeding) and she is eating and should be released in a few days.

Whew!

8575 The Cleveland Clinic has issued a program called GO FIT! as a challenge to the area to become healthy. They are offering a 3 month membership to Curves or to the Y. Anyone over 18 qualifies as long as you live in the participating counties, and don't already belong to either place or did in the last 90 days.

My best friend Karen said that she's going to do it and that if I want to, she'll do it with me. I registered on-line yesterday. Now I have to decide where I am going to go.

For those of you who don't know, I am a large person. I am over 300 lbs. I am in good heath, and I have been trying to make changes for the last few years. I have been out of work for 3 years, so joining my local rec. center has been out of the question. I have said that when I have the money, I don't have the time, and when I have the time, I don't have the money. Now, I have no excuse.

I'm scared. I am afraid of humiliating myself like I used to in gym class. I am scared that if I don't do this now, I will never get started. I am scared that I will become a different person and I don't now how to be anybody but the "fat kid". I know that I will not be model thin (who wants that!) but that I can be healthier......I'm scared I will fail. I'm scared that I will not lose any weight, that I will not make a dent in this mass of what ever I am and that I will always be this massive lump that is destined to be the thing that people stare and giggle at when I go out. I'm scared that I will let my friend down, that I will let down my boyfriend, my friends , my family and my self if I don't mange to do anything....I need support, I need help, and I hope you all will hear me out when I need to vent about this process and cheer with me when I do well.

I'm scared, but I'm ready.

8575 We think she may be younger than she looks. She was the biggest mouse at the store, but she may have had a growth spurt. Usually you can tell their age by their size.

8575 So far Tara has been the one to adjust the best. Yumi is finally taking crackers from us through the bars and seems less jumpy when somebody walks by the cage (can't be helped, it's by the doorway that leads to the kitchen and bathroom) and Tara is standing up for herself if one of the others gets to close when she has her cracker, and will pursue the culprit should her cracker be stolen. She's about 50/50 for tugging it back and has caught onto the idea that there is another cracker if that one is stolen by a lazy room-mate.

Willow has seemed to adjust to the new ones and is still being her usual ninja self, and is still very happy to be picked up and held. Tara seems to be taking to being picked up as well. Yumi...well she'll get used to it....I hope....

8575 Good on the stitch removal. You seem to be progressing! I sprained my ankle when I was in the 7th grade. I had a half cast that was held on with ace bandages. Later that same week, I got the chicken pox. I was VERY thankful for the half cast, 'cause that way, I could soak in a tub of Aveeno.

8575 Thank you. This was born out of years and years of neighborhood drives and being horrorfied at what some people think makes a good display.
