Going with the other if you could topic, where would you go, if you could go anywhere? I mean real or fictional. As for me, I'm not sure. There are so many places I love to go in books, but I'm not sure I would like an extended visit to those places. I do know that I would love to go to Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, and the orient. I would love to go to Pluto since I would only weigh 15 lbs. there, but I will have to think about my own question....

I got this from one of my other book groups, but I thought was a fun topic. If you could meet and hang out with any author, living or dead (putting aside the zombie issue) who would it be? I would love to meet Jim Butcher, Douglas Addams, Dr.Suess, Shel Silverstein, Tamora Pierce, and the list goes on. How about the rest of you?

Paul, while I agree with your opinion on Vic, please watch your language.

I vote for Victor to be killed by his wife or by Randall 6. If any of the characters can reach full humanity, they will. That I think would be more poetic than the orginal destroying him. His "new and improved" creations taking him down....I think that it makes more sense. As for Deucalion, I think he'll go back to his monestary and take along a life-time supply of Cheez-its.

Here we are again people. What do you wish to read as a group next? Do you want to keep reading as a group, or would you like to take a month off? Would you all be open to re-reading (or reading for the first time) a classic? I am open to suggestions.

That disturbed me a great deal. The fact that Victor was trying to CAUSE something like that because he could, and not for altruistic purposes. EECh!

Hello fearless leader! :)
I had to set aside that fact that I do not like Koontz as a writer before I even picked up the book. I don't know if that influenced me as to how I felt about the book as a whole, but I felt that his characters are either in your face or very flat. I was so grossed out after chapter 49, I had to put the book in the freezer (yes, ala Joey) and I have never had to do that before. (Yes, it works by the way, don't know why but it does).
I was not lost in this work like I expected to be, again, I'm not sure if it was the author or the execution of the work itself. I read Shelly when I was 8 or 9 (yes you read that correctly. I was a high comprehension reader)so it was hard for me to compare the new telling to the original. I guess that having the doctor as more sinister that in the orginal keeps with the ubber villains that the modern audience expects, but I don't really know it helped the work or hindered it. I am not really sure if I am a good person to critique the work since my opinion of Koontz hasn't changed. This did not leave me wanting to finish the series or read more of his books.

I read the book over the weekend. I'm ready whenever you are.

The group read is set for July 22, but some may have already started, so just start when you are ready. *NOTE TO ALL* NO spoilers please!

The series is quite different from the books, and I was not too happy with it as a whole (compared to "True Blood".....) but the books are awsome. As 5peainapod can tell you, she is now reading his fantasy series "The Codex Alera" and she is hooked! I recomed that series too, as they are VERY good as well. (Harry Potter has wizards as male too...yet I love those....)

Paul, if it's alright with you, I would like it very much if you would lead the discussion on this one. I feel that everyone should have a turn, and since this is your suggestion, I feel that you are the best person to lead the discussion.

I got this from another group, but it is a cute idea.
Me, "As the world s***'s on me, again."

I just finished a book that is geared for the tween and up set. It isn't too bad, but I found that the author seemed at times to think that you should just know certain things. The book started out as short stories in fantasy mags. I find that some authors (new and established) sometimes do that. They either assume that you have read the magazines or they have over zealous editiors who read the magazines. Either way, it's annoying. It also bothers me when an author makes up words and/or uses real foreign language words and does not provide enough context or a glossary of terms.
Does this annoy the rest of you too? Or am I just being a crank?

If there are no objections, then this will be our next selection. I will give it a few weeks so that we can all get our copies, yes, me too. As a side note, if there is ever a selection that anyone is uncomfortable with or just plain can't stand, please feel free to sit out the group read and join us for one that suits you. I do not wish to make anyone feel that they have to read something.
So, shall we say around July 22 as a target date?

O.K. everybody, what do you think of Koontz? I'm not a fan, but if that is what the group decides, that's what we'll read. Let me know.

I am opening up the floor for discussion of titles for our next group read. Remember, I am trying to keep this democratic, so feel free to post suggestions here, or email me directly and I will create a poll to help us decide. We don't have to do it now, 'specially for those of you who are now addicted to Butcher *laughs evil laugh -bwa-ha-ha-ha! *grins evil grin* Just let me know.

They are my friend, they are. Each one is better than the last....

I have decided that this summer, I am going to re-read book series's that I have already read. Not to say that I won't read other books, 'cause I will, but I am going to re-visit other series's that have gone on a while and that I may have forgotten stuff, like the Dresden books. What are all of you going to do?

Where is everyone? Heloooooooooooo!

I got the idea for this from another book club I'm in, so we can talk about non-book related stuff here. Let me know what you think.
