This one is showing as no longer available Lynxie:( I was going to pick it up myself!"

I wonder if I can still see it because I previously downloaded it. It seems to still have the 'add to library' button for me. That is a shame.

721 Also, Mark Mann has his book The Stone Gate currently for free on Smashwords
Georgina Anne Taylor, another Aussie Indie has Fairy Tales for Freya for free on Smashwords

David Estes also an Aussie Indie, writes YA and he has a number of his books on Smashwords for a couple of dollars each.

721 Dianne F. Gray has a number of her books on smashwords (which means you can download them in a heap of different formats, including PDF so you could read them on a computer or print them out).

She's an Aussie indie and most of her books are usually $1-3 each.

You can see her books on Smashwords here.

A great looking list Elaine. I'll see if I can rustle up something that could work for your Aussie indie.

721 Trevor wrote: "Do either Safe in His Arms by Renae Kaye or Tigerland by Sean Kennedy count as Aussie independent?"

That's a tough one Trevor. They don't seem to be affiliated with any of the traditional publishers, but as Brenda said, they're quite large. I'm inclined to say they wouldn't pass as indie.

If you like that genre, I've read Ann Somerville's Unnatural Selection trilogy. A great Aussie indie author.

I couldn't believe I'd read almost 200 indies either. It's a little crazy :) Happy hunting

Elaine, you might find your local library could stock some local author's books. Failing that, perhaps you could try and find something similar to an Indie author's book you like the sound of?

OR

Perhaps try and find someone who originally published as an indie? And has since been published traditionally...

If all else fails, you could just try your hand at a new author, even if they're traditionally published. :)

As I mentioned in message 12, you need to look at the publisher of the book, not rely on the book being in the indie lists... people can put whatever they want in those lists really.

I wouldn't call Kate Morton indie.

I don't think Kate Morton is Indie Nikk... Pan is Pan McMillan...

Oh well"

That's a shame Stef, I loved Captive Prince. I gave it 5 stars. :) I hope you end up liking it.

I agree with Brenda, Julie. This seems more historical fiction to me.

721 Some fantastic lists so far. It's so great to see so many different indies being picked!

I hope you enjoy them!

Yup, Brenda is correct. She would qualify Sally.

721 Hi guys,

So I read almost only indie books. There's a bunch of lists on here that say they're indie (Indie Author Lists) but to check if they are, you should look at the publisher details for the book.

If they say Createspace or Amazon, or the Author's name, that's a good sign, but indie also means those published through small press companies.

Also, if you want some ideas, I have shelves specifically for indie authors and I mark if they're Aussie too.

(My Indie author list)

Check my shelving for Aussie Author or AWW2013/14/15.

RitaSkeeter wrote: "Brenda; I remember that you read The Stone Gate by Mark Mann. Is that indie? I'm not too sure how to tell."

Yes Rita, he's considered Indie :)

Nah, just get to add them to the next challenge as Brenda suggested :D

I've just had too much extra cirricular stuff on outside of work to get much reading done... so frustrating!
