61281 HAH! April, your sentences make me smile. (; I knew what you meant, ahahah.

But seriously, Steinbeck, ahhhhhh. Soooo unfair! I can't get into what I'm reading now, hahah. Needing to rewatch BBC's Merlin to continue the magic. <3

Maybe someday April, my name will be attached to an Arthuian book. That'd be like...so incredibly cool, I'd probably die with happiness. (;
Mar 27, 2012 02:50PM

61281 Well, of course you know what happens, since it's all just rewriting regular ole Arthurian stories; but honestly, imagine if I had no clue what came after what was in this book alone? It would have KILLED me!

(view spoiler)

And then you get like, eighty pages of Steinbeck's journal entries/letters he wrote to people about his translating, and when did he think it was a good idea to NOT KEEP GOING WHAAAAA.

April, I am qualified, hahha. x) But I would fear doing injustice to the fandom, haha. I keep joking and telling my mom I'm going to major in Arthurian history. XD

61281 I finished! Steinbeck trolled the ending! It is completely unfair to the reader to end the WHOLE story with THAT scene and then give no more!

Ahhhhhhhh, banging my head against a wall! I need a sequel, and yet there is none!

61281 That awkward moment when Lancelot makes out with a dude, dreaming it's Guinevere. lololololololol. OTL.

Close to finishing; I'll definitely be done today!

Denise, I believe Geoffrey of Monmouth was the first to give Arthur the general a kingly title and create the character we know now. Troyes is responsible for Lancelot coming into the picture. (: (And, of course, Tristan and Isuelt.)

61281 Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

Hahhaa, sad to say. x)
Mar 26, 2012 01:48PM

61281 Chris, it makes me even more excited to read Mallory's actual works, since these are just re-tellings/translations from the old English style. Although I've noticed a few modern quirks, like usage of the word "chatterbox"--not sure that existed way back then! x)

I think all junior classes read the same thing, right? I mean, as long as it's the Honors American Literature class. (: But I'm hoping to do another novel this year! Poems and short stories are nice, but I want something to really devour!

Jessica, SO right! The movie was great! I went to the midnight showing. (: The only thing I disliked was the really quick/chopped up ending. They left a lot out that was in the book at the very end, which I didn't enjoy quite as much!

61281 Thanks so much Jessica!

61281 Just found you, Dalynn! Definitely following. (:

61281 Dalynn, like Eragon? (; That one should count!

61281 Jessica, okay! Slowly but surely almost starting to understand... (:
Mar 26, 2012 11:36AM

61281 Well, here's the update with me. It's kind of long, and maybe to "normal" readers, it would be boring, but I'm hooked on every freaking word because this topic excites me to no end. <3

I'm at the last story, The Noble Tale of Sir Lancelot and The Lake, which is good because this is the first time Lancelot has showed up! I just finished stories with Gawain, Ewain and Marhalt, and it seems like I haven't read anything concerning Arthur himself in quite some time.

All in all, if this is on your list, you soooo will not be disappointed. (:

61281 OKAY!
I got a Twitter! Just for entering giveaways.

But when somebody asks for my twitter name, do I tell them the one in bold letters, or the one with the @ in front of it?!?!?
I don't know what I'm doooooing!

61281 Spell Bound (Hex Hall, #3) by Rachel Hawkins
Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins. 4/5

Oh man. I don’t know if there are words for all my emotions right now. I thought I had collected all my feelings, but maybe I’ll just start sobbing all over again while I’m writing this.

I’m dead serious when I say a book has not made me cry this much in four years. So Rachel Hawkins has just joined the band of authors who are part of this club called “Writers-Who-Own-Parts-Of-Thalia’s-Soul-And-Abuse-It-As-We-See-Fit”, because…wow. This book is not for the faint of heart. While it wasn’t as well-written as the previous two, and was much more predictable (in most aspects), the way it made me feel was just…out of the park. Moreso than, like I said, anything I’ve read in four years. So I really have to applaud Hawkins, and I’m definitely glad I was home alone when I finished the book (although the reading out loud thing wasn’t working so well, since there were these huge, wrenching sobs coming out of me whenever I tried to speak). A stunning end to a stunning series.

61281 Jordy, the only other thing we've read so far this year, in terms of novels, was Huckleberry Finn. I enjoyed Huck Finn, but I think I liked Gatsby a bit more. (:

I'm reading:
The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck

61281 King Arthur legends were based on an old general from Wales from way back when, like Denise said. While he wasn't a king, there's a landmark for him, where he died in battle, and he was evidently much loved by his soldiers, and they referred to him as a legend and a near-king on that tombstone, if I'm correct.

I'm shocked you've never heard of him! Arthurian mythology is like...the BEST! :D

61281 Rachael, but I cry even if I didn't like the book! I gave two stars to "Nineteen Minutes" and I sometimes was sobbing, hahah. (: And I read the Twilight series as they came out, in my middle school years, so I was so very sad when Edward left Bella, when Bella almost died in BD, and sktnuejv n. I'm just a puddle of emotion, hahaha.

61281 Oh geez, wow, I cry a LOT compared to you guys! I admire your strength, hahah. (:
Mar 17, 2012 11:16PM

61281 Okay, I cry a LOT. So really, this topic is so that I can feel a lot less lonely in having tons of books that have made me cry. (:
