61281 Denise, so far, my "I own" shelf here on GR is only 206, but that's only including books I want to read for reviews and not actually everything I own! (And that doesn't even BEGIN to cover the books we have in our house.)

But hey, maybe someday, all 2600+ will be on my shelves. (:

61281 Just finished the ARC of Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone my supervisor at the library provided me with. Not impressed with how uncomfortable some passages made me. :/

Now I'm reading:
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

An ACTUAL DUSTY BOOK, HUZZAH.

61281 *whispers to Hayley* Phantooooooommmmmmmm.

Well this is good! I'll be able to knock out the other two LotR books next month, after I read the first for this month. (:

61281 April, I haven't read her other book, but I was thinking about it--now I don't think I'll even give it a try, hahah. Seriously, I just hit the 2600+ mark on my TBR list; no reason to waste my time on more Alice Sebold!

61281 I second The Lovely Bones.

I actually feel like I'm disappointed with most bestsellers, hahah. OTL.

61281 Denise, seriously! It's like EVERYTHING this year has been terrible! I've given a lot of two and one stars this year. But at the ones that have been good are really good! (:

61281 April, that is EXACTLY what I want! I also want my kids to be able to read all the books that I've read, which might not be available at the library by the time they're there! (And we're converting my brother's old bedroom in a family library, hahaha.)

The other pet peeve I have when I borrow books is that I've read it already, so there's no urgency to buy it. When I buy a book, I especially want to read it right away for my blog; and if I've already read it for the blog, there's no reason for me to have it. Or like when I read the Pendragon series, I borrowed all of them except for the last three from a friend when I was thirteen. And I'm STILL missing two of them! And now there are new covers for them and I can't find the originals! I can't even reread the series yet, and that makes me terrible sad! :[

On an entirely separate note, since this is the "general" area, my parents and I went to the Coldplay concert last night...I seriously don't think anything could have been more glorious! <3

61281 On the library topic, when I was seven or something, our library said I had a bunch of fines that didn't really exist. They thought I'd lost some books, which I paid for, and then never removed the fine. So it was there, like fifty bucks, until I started volunteering there a few months ago and my supervisor was an angel and removed them for me! So I used to go the library ALL the time, and then I had the fines that banned me from getting books there--so I had to buy all my books. Now it's like an addiction--I like knowing I own the books I've read, good and bad! Whenever I walk into my room, it's like a pathway of the things I've read and where I've been. <3

Above by Leah Bobet.

I really like it so far! It's like...poetry in a narrative. It's the language one would use for writing poetry, except it makes a narrative. It's so beautiful!

61281 The Nine Lives of Chloe King (Nine Lives of Chloe King, #1-3) by Liz Braswell
The Nine Lives of Chloe King by Liz Braswell. 1/5

"First, let me say that I was a huge fan of the television show, which is why I picked up this book in the first place. It was witty, funny, and enjoyable (even if it were a little bit lame, in terms of quality). I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters and laughed at their jokes and felt the tension right when the viewer was supposed to. It was one of my guilty pleasures and I was incredibly sad when it ended.

The book had none of those qualities. In fact, everything was reversed. I laughed at parts I was supposed to be tense (because the climaxes were so ridiculous and poorly written you couldn’t help but laugh); I felt awkward during the jokes; and, most importantly, I was suffering through it and just about dying for it to be over with. I feel miserable with the idea that this one awful book sucked up my entire spring break’s worth of reading.

Note to the cautious–just because you loved the show, doesn’t mean you’ll love this. Not at all. "

(PS, is it just me, or have most of my dusty books sucked thus far??)

61281 Okay, I'll go with The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Mostly I haven't read it because, even though it short, it looks soooooo boring and doesn't sound interesting, but I've heard it's good. So I'm really trying, I swear. OTL

61281 If I had a copy of Woman in Black, I definitely would! Maybe I'll be able to find one somewhere for cheap. (:

61281 Ahhh, I read that last year in English. (: It's really short! I didn't like it THAT much, but maybe you'll feel differently! (:

61281 The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck
The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck. 5/5

Warning. I am a nerd. So while I loved this book immensely, people who generally read my reviews might feel differently about this book than I do, since Arthurian history is one of my passions. So I wouldn’t trust my word for it on whether or not any reader of this review will end up liking it as much.

That much being said, this was one of the best books I have ever read in my life and after having read it, I feel like a person who’s been living in a cave and has just now first seen the light of day. It was that good. Steinbeck so…perfectly captured the Arthurian tales, taking the originals and modifying them so anybody could read them without having to battle their way through Mallory’s old English. It was stupendous and breathtaking, and I would recommend it immediately to anybody looking for something to read in the historical fiction genre.
