Challenge Ideas? (22 new)
Nov 20, 2011 03:21PM

47034 Oh I like that idea Jennifer! I'm going to have to think on that more but that would be cool for a year long...or half year challenge.
Nov 20, 2011 03:20PM

47034 Nope. It doesn't have to be any paranormal for the first three categories. Just the fourth.

47034 How true! I really liked Lily Bard. For some reason, her character was just...I rooted for her. I wanted her to win at everything she did. And even if the story was slow at times, I still liked her...she was NOT one of those characters that have you yelling at your book "Why are you being so stupid!??!?"

47034 'Tis the Season Challenge
Starts: November 20
Ends: January 20

Below you will see four separate categories. You can choose to read 1, 2, 3, or 4 books from each category. See each category for more specific instructions.

Levels:
Transitional - 4 books (1 book from each category)
Fledgling - 8 books (2 books from each category)
Vampire - 12 books (3 books from each category)
Master - 16 books (4 books from each category)

Category 1 - Autumn Colors
Choose a book/s with a cover with one of the following colors:
*Red
*Orange
*Brown
*Yellow

Category 2 – Holiday Themed Books
Read 1 (or 2, 3, or 4) book/s with a holiday theme! Could be Thankgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, New Year, or Winter themed (or any other holiday falling within the challenge dates)! If you're doing a level where you have to read more than one book, you can choose to do two different holidays or books with the same holiday theme.

Category 3 - Holiday Covers
Choose a book/s with a cover with one of the following items on it:
*Boots
*Snowflake
*Turkey
*Christmas Tree

Category 4 - Paranormal Books
Choose a book/s with the following main characters:
*Vampires
*Fae
*Angels or Demons
*Shifters

Remember you have to do all 4 categories but you can choose 1, 2, 3, or 4 books from each category!

The only real rule is you can't double-count a book. HOWEVER, you can use the same book across different challenges (not categories- but other challenges in this group). So you can use the same book for both the monthly challenge and this challenge.

EXAMPLE:
I’m going to choose the Transitional Level: 1 book from each category!
Total Books 4
Completed - 0/4

Category 1- Red - Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward
Category 2- Christmas-themed book - The Magical Christmas Cat (Includes Breeds, #17; Psy-Changeling, #5.5; Murphy Sisters, #2) by Lora Leigh
Category 3- Snowflake - An Enchanted Season (Includes Psy-Changeling, #3.5; Murphy Sisters, #1) by Maggie Shayne
Category 4- Vampires - Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead

To participate, all you have to do is post a list of the books you will read. Then update your post by editing it each time you read a book. You can also let us know how you are doing and update us on your progress with a new post.

I know that was a lot so feel free to ask questions. If something doesn't make sense to you, chances are someone else has the same question.

Happy Reading, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, and Good Luck!!

47034 Congrats on finishing Laura!

47034 I love the Lily Bard books. For some reason that was my favorite series by Charlaine Harris. I know a lot of people didn't find that series as good...but I happen to love it...maybe I'm just weird.

47034 Sylvie wrote: "Those are good ideas, especially rotating responsibilities. I'd also like to have more links to author websites, especially GR authors!"

Do we want to start a thread for vampire authors with links to their websites? We could have a master list or post as we go or...I don;t know. Any thoughts?
Nov 20, 2011 11:36AM

47034 Alright then...let's try to get a schedule for responsibilities together...something like

January
Monthly challenge - KellBell
Group reads - Sylvie
New book release calendar - Taryn

February
Monthly challenge - Taryn
Group reads - KellBell
New book release calendar - Sylvie

March
Monthly challenge - Sylvie
Group reads - Taryn
New book release calendar - KellBell

Also, it's probably worth me posting up the calendar that has when things need to be done by but putting names by those things since we'll have roles. Do we want to start this for the month of December instead of waiting until January? Because I can get that together now.

I think I've finally gotten out of my book funk! It took me about 3 months and finding a really good series. But I think I've finally done it! So right now I'm only in the middle of 1....but during that time I don't even know how many i started and didn't finish!

So hold on Cassie! It will get better, I promise!

I'm glad someone posted this...I happen to have a thing against zombies and aliens. Not that they bother me as much as I just can't get into books with them. The only exception is when it's aliens on this planet that are more like some other supernatural creatures (like vampires or shifters). Anyway, for those of you that like zombies, I'm glad we have Katya!
Challenge Ideas? (22 new)

47034 Above, Laura said spelling out "My vampire book obsession" for a full year challenge. I'm still planning on using that for 2012!...the trick being the books can be author names or titles but they all have to have vampires in them!
Nov 20, 2011 10:58AM

47034 Also....if we want to have more defined roles for us going into the new year, that may be good.

I've been asking you guys to do certain things - Taryn with challenges, Sylvie with the new book release calendar, and me with the group reads. But if you want to switch it up (switch responsibilities each month, or do something different) we can... again, let me know. :)
Nov 20, 2011 10:55AM

47034 I like it...great idea Taryn!!
Nov 20, 2011 10:53AM

47034 Some of my thoughts - I really like the Vampire Worlds folder (could be renamed Vampire Series). Anyway, I think we could put some focus on adding more series to that.

Also, any threads that haven't been active for a while could be archived into a "2011 Archives" folder (currently we just have the archives folder).

That's pretty easy stuff. And not so much changes as clean-up. So again, any other ideas - especially more exciting than these - would be appreciated. I'm not opposed to "revamping" the group. Pun intended. ;)
Nov 20, 2011 10:48AM

47034 Alright you two...this group was set up in April-May and the overall organization really hasn't changed since then. Most of what we do (group reads, challenges, etc.) haven't changed since then either.

In the spirit of the new year, I'm up for making changes, adding things, moving things around, taking things away that aren't working, whatever. So let me know if you have any cool ideas or whatnot. And we'll see where to go from there!!
Nov 20, 2011 10:43AM

47034 Alright everyone! Today is the last day for questions!! Does anyone have any others to add?

I know! My favorite scenes from Twilight is the restaurant and then the meadow. Because that is really where they get to know each other. And they movie didn't capture those scenes at all...I mean they were in there, but they were just bad. So sad!

47034 Great idea Sylvie! I like it!
