4170 Oz does have a strong US and British bias in our books, TV and movies. Which is why I try to consume media from many European and Asian sources to balance it out. I don't tend to consume aussie books, TV or movies as much. Which is strange :-?

Iain wrote: "I suspect the BLM protests in Victoria have very little to do with the current outbreak"

It wasn't the major reason. The major cause (mentioned in parliament) was the hiring of private, poorly, trained security to guard the hotel quarantined people. They maintained no social distancing from each other or the quarantined and the disease escaped back into the community from them.

I've never been so happy to have a moat around us :-)

4170 I agree that a lot of American literature is appropriate and relevant to all of us. I have read most of the classics like "To Kill a Mockingbird", A fair few Steinbeck, Twain, Hemingway etc

I did some American Lit at school. "Catcher in the Rye" and "Grapes of Wrath" etc

The Australia BLM did reference George Floyd, but our protests were for indigenous issues. "Black Deaths in Custody" etc

The Melbourne one was problematic as it didn't practice social distancing and since then Victoria has undergone a second (and worse) wave of covid-19. BLM was one of several causes.

The Tassie BLM protests had police permission and maintained social distancing protocols.

4170 I'm reading The Relentless Moon

I was initially disappointed that it wasn't an Elma story, but I got over than fairly quickly. Loving it :-)

4170 That is something that annoys me about audiobook. All the "said's" stand out if overused. To the point of annoyance.

In a book they're needed. But in a good audio performance, they're redundant.

S&L did interview Terry back in 2013, but it doesn't look like the video is available to watch :-?

I doubt that's going to do him any good (medically) :-?

It will stop flys, blowies and mozzies though ;-)

4170 I realised you were joking once you mention KC, but our posts had crossed over by then ;-)

4170 Yeah "Saving Private Ryan" wouldn't have been my first go-to for his famous "known-by" role. I'd forgotten he was even in it.

'Firefly' for sure, then 'Castle', then maybe "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"

I don't even think they would need to feel slighted. If they want it they will "buy" it.

Qatar bribed FIFA officials to get the 2022 World Cup and even when the corruption was uncovered, managed to hold onto it.

The greatest game in the world. A game I've loved since the 60s.

I think you will find that ESPN in the US is showing the AFL now.

Tin's not poisonous :-? I worked in a tin mine and it's one of the safest and least toxic metals we mine.

The mine I was at had high concentrations of Arsenic in with the Tin. Now that's poisonous

4170 The iconic side crust was so the coal miners could eat it with their dirty hands. They'd eat the filling and throw away the crust.

Trike wrote: "Weird. It’s called cornish but doesn’t have any corn?"

You're weird ;-)

4170 I'm not sure how The Sandman would work in audio form :-? It is such an imaginative work that it's hard for me to imagine it without the visuals of the fabulous artwork.

The Graphic Novel is one of my all time favourites. It is a masterpiece.
4170 Back to back authors who have Jamaican heritage :-)
JMB describes herself as a British–Jamaican American writer.

It sounds intriguing.

Tamahome wrote: "5 stars already from Tom Merritt!"

That's why he picked it.

I'm going to do something I don't know if I've ever done before. I'm going to pick a book for August that I just finished reading because I liked it so much.

That's the reason. I enjoyed this book so much that I really just want to see what you think of it and talk about it

I think Tom will choose something a bit lighter.

4170 It does get better after Ep. 1. I was underwhelmed by the pilot, but I'm up to Episode 6 and loving it.
