Quick Burns (2024) (407 new)
Mar 24, 2023 09:18PM

4170 Start a thread or go to the Breakout discussion from Quick Burns Thread to discuss anything brought up in Quick Burns.

We like to keep this clear for just news. To make it easier for V&T to read through for items for the podcast.

Thanks.

doughnuts 😜

BTW the most overrated and ruined dessert treat.

Doughnuts are only nice straight out of the oven, with a light sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar.

Those cold ones covered in all manner of sweet shit, like chocolate/icing/sprinkles etc are horrible 🤔

Scones and doughnuts would be a perfect accompaniment while reading Legends & Lattes. 😎
4170 I kinda want to go back and get the audiobook version now 🤔 I just got the eBook.

scwuns. I like it 😉

I'm using that next time I hear someone say 'sc-owns'
4170 Legends and Lattes continues 'Swords' dominance of March Madness. 6 of 8

Also the 2nd winning book that I was the first to nominate 😎
Invisible Library in 2017 was the other.

As long as you rhyme them with 'Dons' and not 'Stones' 😉
Picard season 3 (121 new)
Mar 22, 2023 05:10PM

4170 I had no problem with Picard being fan service-y. It should appeal to the fans of TNG,

It would have been nice for it to do that and also appeal to non-TNG fans.

ST: Lower decks does it well. Fans of Star Trek will get the little throw away references and they give enough context for viewers to get the references they need to know.

I doubt Pedro has ever been in the suit, outside of the helmet-less scenes from last season.

They have made it obvious that we will never see him sans helmet again. Hence the upgrade to the stuntmen/body doubles credits.

That would be one cool gig. Read a few lines from wherever he is in the world. With the muffled filter the sound quality doesn't even need to be that great. Like I said before, he could, literally, phone it in. 😉
Picard season 3 (121 new)

4170 I gave up in Season 1. It doesn't have a lot for people, like me, who didn't watch much of NG. Too much fan service. Which is ok for that audience.

Lower Decks is much more friendly to people who have only a basic knowledge of ST.
The Mandalorian (454 new)

4170 With the decision to keep Mando's helmet on and the body doubles getting a, long over due and well deserved, prominent place on the credit roll, it's safe to say that we will never see Pedro Pascal, physically, on The Mandolorian again.

He can, literally, phone it in.

4170 I love it. We lose it in 12 days. Back to driving to and from work in the dark soon.

4170 She looked like an older Bella Ramsey too.

The voice actor for Joel in the game was in last weeks episode too.

4170 I like peanuts, but hate peanut butter. So you lost me there.

My favourite sandwich is what is known in Britain as a Chip Butty. I've just always called it a Chip Sandwich.

Take fat long chips (not Fries 😉) between 2 well buttered pieces of bread. Add Tomato sauce (not ketchup 😉) and enjoy.

4170 Tomato sauce is sweet, but the vinegary tomato taste is what we are going for. I like it on pizza and fish & chips.

In Australia: Tomato sauce = ketchup. What you call Tomato sauce we call tomato paste. Jelly=Jam. Jello=Jelly.

Yes we are weird. 😉or you are 😉I blame the Brits 😉

4170 When I was kid I thought they meant what we call jelly on sandwiches. Until I realised later in life they meant jam.

I'm not a fan of mixing sweet and savoury. I like Maple syrup on pancakes. Bacon goes in a bun with cheese and egg.

You're not alone. Most people outside the US would consider combining peanut butter and jam (jelly) an abomination.
Cozy?? (33 new)

4170 I'll also agree with A Psalm for the Wild-Built as a cosy read.

I'd also add T. Kingfisher's A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking

On the Sci-Fi side I would, cautiously, add Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell. Though I did have a few problems with how Marty Stu the hero is. He is great. 🙄 Everyone loves him 🙄 and every thing he touches turns to gold. 🙄

But it is cosy.

4170 Never meet your heroes.

I don't think that applies to Veronica and Tom 😉
4170 I enjoyed both Children of Time and City of Brass. Both solid reads.

I think Legends & Lattes will win. But I did really like the only Annalee Newitz book that I've read.

I did read their book Autonomous.

So overall their are no bad choices left, for me.

You'd need a lot of recipes just for the Hobbits with all their meals.

Breakfast
Second Breakfast
Elevenses
Luncheon
Afternoon Tea
Dinner
Supper

Not to mention in between meal snacks.
