4170 I was expecting something darker too, but found the characters likable and the hopeful conclusion satisfying.

I was a little confused by the presentation of dream concepts, but the writing flows nicely and kept me interested.

4170 Rivers of London New Year's Eve tweet from Ben Aaronovitch:

here is the last line I wrote in 2020...
Sally scampered past me and into the house. I followed her in, closed the door and hunted out my scene of crime kit and a paper evidence bag. While I did that I speed dialled Nightingale.

4170 My 2020 reading flamed out in December. It's been an exhausting year for everyone.

Sword 46/24
Mostly urban fantasy including Sandman Slim, Dresden, Alex Verus, Rivers of London, started re-reading early Rivers of London in audio

Laser 31/24
Re-read Murderbot, started re-reading Murderbot in audio, Star Wars, Trouble Dog and Killer Flies

Comics 26/24
Mostly Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Predator and something new, The Old Guard

Short 12/24
Didn't read much short fiction this year and it's really too difficult to track with Goodreads. I think I'll drop this challenge next year.

I read more audio books this year than ever before thanks to my local public library and their Hoopla/Libby collections.

I spent $58.31 this year buying 10 of 12 Sword & Laser picks and one alt-pick.

I found two of Trike's dogs, one of Tom's dogs, and none of Veronica's dogs in Trike's 2020 S&L word search puzzle which was oddly satisfying in an otherwise aggravating December. Thank you Trike. Sawyer (Tom's other dog), Bodega and Moro (Veronica's dogs) may not be too happy with Trike's doggo puzzle choices.

I hope everyone has a safe and better new year.

She plays (view spoiler) an interesting character.

4170 Haven't been inclined to read much this month and only one day left in this miserable year.

I signed up for HBO MAX to see Wonder Woman 1984, which was disappointing. Not a bad movie; just not as enjoyable as the first WW film.

I've been checking out other movies and tv series on HBO MAX. I started Perry Mason a couple of days ago. I didn't know what to expect. Over the years I've seen many of the original black&white Perry Mason episodes. The HBO Mason prequel looks terrific and it has Tatiana Maslany too!

4170 Are illustrated novels making a comeback?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/entert...

The article is mostly about literary fiction. I think there are new examples of illustrated SF & F published every year, though these may sometimes be limited editions.

my brain hurts when I see a recipe measured in grams ;-)
