Rankin/Bass Hobbit leaves out much detail. My first non-book experience of The Hobbit was the audio version on LP vinyl narrated by Nicol Williamson. It's up on Youtube these dayshttps://youtu.be/FcaF8wAq0C0
Just watched the Rankin/Bass Hobbit which is on HBO MAX along with the Peter Jackson films. I remember watching it on broadcast tv when it first came out. Lightweight but fun.
Finished rewatching The Lord of the Rings over the past three evenings. Now, do I rewatch The Hobbit, or find something else?

Saw a tweet from James S.A. Corey saying that season 5 was live. Just finished the three episodes available and WOW! I can't think of any other shows that have kept me on the edge of my seat like this one.
Many of the Verne books at Gutenberg and the Internet Archive are scans of the illustrated editions from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and worth checking out if you have the time.
He wasn't a SF&F author, but he was a remarkable storyteller. I think I've read all of his books.RIP John Le Carré
