Electro rolled his eyes, but couldn't help smiling a little. "Am I that obvious? Anyway, I meant that he wouldn't know that controlling electronics would be called technomancy."Joey shrugged, unperturbed. "So that's what it's called. Yeah, I didn't know. I don't read superhero comics like you do."
"Well, if I could control it, the power I have right now would be pretty cool," Joey admitted, leaning back in his chair. "I bet I know what Electro wrote about...""No you don't," Electro said, giving him a look.
"Yes I do," Joey teased. Turning to Noel, he explained, "Electro's in love with all types of electronics. Therefore it only makes sense he would want to have the power of..."
"Technomancy," Electro interrupted. "I bet you didn't know that was what I'd want!"
"Harry Potter? I think I read that series. A couple years ago."Electro said nothing. He actually had read the series many times, and many other books besides. It was the only entertainment option he had that didn't short out in his hands.
Joey, slumped in his seat again, sighed. "That was close," he muttered."That power's really cool," Electro said, half-turning in his chair. "Whenever you don't want to be seen, you just vanish."
"I guess it can be cool," Joey agreed doubtfully. "Saffy, how on earth did you come up with that explanation? And why?"
"Very good, Noel." Miss Nomad kept smiling. "Okay, class. We're working on grammar today-" She stopped as a groan rolled through the class. "Now, none of that." She picked up a huge stack of paper and started passing it out to the class. "We'll work on this packet together, and some of it will be assigned as homework. So, what do you know about dialogue rules?..."((Our charries can just tune out. They don't have to answer her questions or participate in the discussion. The only time they have to do that is if Miss Nomad says their name.))
"Very good, Saffy!" Miss Nomad said with a smile so bright, it was almost blinding. "Would anyone else like to share?"((looking at Noel, Frankie...))
"Ah... um..." Miss Nomad said, looking bewildered. The kids tittered, and immediately she straightened her expression. "Of course you may share, Miss Silver." She sat down and smiled expectantly.
"Um..." Joey stammered. He could feel his face turning bright red. Reluctantly he stood up. "Do I have to?"Miss Nomad frowned slightly. "Joseph...? Did anyone see where Joey went?"
Electro looked over at his friend's seat, startled. Sure enough, Joey had disappeared again.
Joey sighed. Whenever he was visible, Miss Nomad invariably called on him to share his writing, even though it was never particularly stellar. I guess being invisible can sometimes be good... he thought.Electro toyed idly with his pencil. Miss Nomad never called on him and he never volunteered. They had an unspoken agreement - she would let him do his own thing by himself, and he would fix her computer and other electronics when they broke down (which was often).
"Joseph," Miss Nomad said with a smile. "Why don't you share with us?"
((Joey's going to get all shy and disappear...))
"As controllable as you want it to be," Miss Nomad said, looking a little puzzled. "Although I believe in most superhero stories, the hero has complete control over their abilities."
"Yes, Saffy?" Miss Nomad asked, smiling.I sure wouldn't want the one I have now, Joey thought, scowling. He got out his notebook and stared at the blank page. Well... maybe if I had some control over it...
Electro knew right away what he would have. Not electricity generation, for sure. He smiled as he wrote. Technomancy.
((Everyone? Sure!))"Welcome to our school, then, Noel," Miss Nomad said kindly. "Everyone, our journal for today is: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?"
"Fine, just fine, thank you Saffy," Miss Nomad said with a smile. "So, Noel, why don't you tell us a little about yourself?"
"Please, have a seat," Miss Nomad said kindly.Joey followed Noel in and slipped into his usual seat. Electro sat next to him, patting his hair so it lay flat.
((Next class -science with Mr. Briggs, I do believe.))
"I think we're going to work on grammar today," Electro said helpfully. His hair was lying flat and the sparks in his eyes faded as he calmed down.
((Um... Joey is unnoticeable, so she shouldn't notice him... she would just think she tripped and fell or something. And now, when he's helping her up, she wouldn't notice he's helping her up, she'd just think she's getting up by herself.))Joey sighed and helped Noel to her feet. "Same class as me and Chris," he said. "I hope that he's saved me a seat..."
"Yes," Joey replied, but of course Noel couldn't hear him. Sighing, he looked around the room. He located one of Saffy's paintbrushes and carefully painted on Noel's hand - he could think of nowhere else that she would notice - LET'S GO.((Remember, Joey's unnoticeable, which means that Noel will look down and be all, "How'd those words get there?"))
"I'll get her," Electro muttered, then looked at the surrounding crowd. "...Maybe it's better if Joey gets her. Joey, if you're still here, please get Noel?""What... Have I vanished again?" Joey asked, startled. When no one responded, he muttered, "Guess that's a yes," and went to get Noel.
