The stories I like are her later edgier ones, she's a good creepy psychological writer. She's also very good at getting at the darker and violent side of America. Stories like: "Naked," "Why Don't You Come Live With Me Now, It's Time," "The Doll Lady" (I think that's the title) and others. Sometimes collected in "grotesque" or New Gothic anthologies.

I come from a big family, where one gets trained early...no way to get heard otherwise.

Oh no, she gets dissed all the time for being so damn productive. For churning out novel after novel. She's a writing machine. I met her once at a conference and it's true, you can see the writing wheels turning as her eyes bore into you.


But, I like her. Again, for her short stories. And some of her essays.

I'm a huge fan of Sir David Giltinan's reviews.

and Kowalski's as well.

and you know what? Kim Doubleday is very, very good, I'll find a favorite and post it.

I happen to love her short stories.

That said, I've never read one of her novels.
Not because I don't like novels (I do), but because her topics don't interest me so much.

Didn't Keillor come back from Denmark with a Danish wife? and then they had a kid?
am I wrong about this?
