38077 I think I read this a while ago but I can't recall the whole book

38077 I have three releases tomorrow I am looking forward to--Ashley, Harrison, and Thayne

38077 I can't recommend it enough. In the course of the book the hero gives the heroine two presents, very different, that may qualify as the two most thoughtful gifts in all of romance.

38077 I loved this book--as I said on the other thread, the heroine is partially paralyzed after a recent accident, very gutsy, and the hero loves everything about her.In the course of the book he gives her two presents which are, in very different ways, extraordinarily thoughtful gifts. They may qualify as the two best gifts in romance novels...

38077 I do not understand how this became two threads when I did an edit and not a repost. Ah well.

38077 Sorry! It's "The Year We Fell Down" by Sarina Bowen. It's a truly wonderful book and I am not giving spoilers away to tell you that Corey the heroine is on crutches or in a wheelchair because her lower legs are paralyzed from a recent accident.
She is amazingly gutsy and her hero admires everything about her--they are a great couple.

38077 I guess the Kelly Christmas stories. Also the new Burrowes and March.

I www hoping to read the new Milan but apparently it's now scheduled for December.

38077 Janga, while its definitely my favorite of the series the second one is also remarkable. The others are "merely" very good.

38077 Unfortunately I dropped a line and although I tried to make the edit it didn't stick...it should be, "Shake off that hangover Heroine. We have plans tonight."

38077 I am not a big reader of YA, but I loved this book. There are a couple of scenes which are deeply moving, but I picked this one for its light-hearted tone. And the couple are great together--because they really appreciate each other as people, not because they happen to be hot. (Incidently, I think it’s the only scene in the book where either lead has a hangover…its not a heavy drinking book.)

Ten minutes later things were looking up. I’d climbed the stairs without tripping or panicking. And roommate and I got our favorite table near the door. I was just finishing my waffle when Team Captain slid his tray next to mine. “Morning lovelies,” he said. “Can I sit?”
“Of course,” I said. “Roommate, this is Team Captain. He’s the team captain of our water polo team. Team Captain, this is my roommate, Roommate.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you” Team Captain said. “It would be an even greater pleasure if you would join the team”.
Roommate laughed. “Sports and I do not get along.”
“Inner tube water polo is not a sport. It is a calling.” He aimed his crinkle-eyed smile at roommate and I thought I saw her flush. Roommate had a thing for British accents. “We have nice parties afterwards.” Then he turned to me. “You disappeared last night, Heroine.”
“I did?” It was funny to think that he hadn’t noticed my departure. I always assumed that my awkward comings and goings were as vivid as neon.
“Did you leave before or after the fireworks?” Team Captain asked.
“What fireworks?” I asked.
“Ah.” His expression took on the flavor of conspiracy. He swiveled around to look over both shoulders before continuing. “Your friend Hero and his Ice Queen had a spat in the hallway. It was quite the blow out, really. Very theatrical.”
Roommate leaned forward in her chair. “What happened?”
“Well…” Just then Teammate set her tray down across from Team Captain.
“Good morning!”
“Indeed,” agreed Team Captain. “I was just telling Heroine about the neighborhood brawl. She missed it.” He leaned in. “It began with Icequeen yelling ‘Nobody dumps me Hero’ for all the world to hear!”
I felt my heart skip a beat, and Roommate gasped.

“He dumped her?”
Teammate clapped her hands with glee. “He did. But not before she whipped out the L word. But then he said that if she loved him she wouldn’t be fucking her” Teammate broke off to laugh “her Italian Stallion all over Europe.”
I just sat there, dumbfounded ,while my hope fairy flew in the open door wrestling with the duct tape across her mouth.
“Wow,” Roommate breathed. “Icequeen must be pissed.”
“Oh, she is,” Teammate nodded. “She went right from ‘I love you’ to ‘you were a big mistake’. And he said ‘My work here is done’ and then he left.”
“And then we all started placing bets,” Team Captain said, folding a piece of bacon into his mouth.
“Bets on what?” I asked.
“Bets on which of them will pair up first,” Teammate said. “My money is on Icequeen, because she is all about her image. She has to have man candy on her arm. Now, the line of women waiting for Hero to be single is pretty long. But he won’t replace her right away. At least I hope he doesn’t. I need time to line up my shot. ” She mimed throwing a ball into a polo net. “A girl can dream, anyway.”
That was the moment Hero walked into the dining hall, and the four of us looked up just quickly enough to make it clear that we’d been talking about him. My stomach did a little flip flop as I looked up at the newly single Hero. Easy, I cautioned myself, there’s no reason to get your hopes up.
But my hope fairy ripped the duct tape off her mouth and yelled YES THERE IS!
Team Captain wiped his mouth. “You look a little banged up, mate.” And it was true. Hero’s eyes were red and tired.
“I may have done a little drinking late last night.” Hero limped around the table, circling behind Team Captain and Roommate to stand beside me. He dug a little pill bottle out of his pocket and tapped a couple of tablets into his hand. Tossing them into his mouth, he picked up my juice glass and drained it.
“Hey!” I protested, out of habit.
“Bad night?” Team Captain asked.
“Pretty good one, actually. But everyone I wanted to talk to was asleep, except for Best Friend and his bourbon. Hang on.” He walked my juice glass over to the dispenser and refilled it. When he came back, I could see that he was limping badly. And that would be my fault, of course.
“Your knee,” I said when he got back.
Hero shrugged. “It’s just stiff. I woke up face down on Best Friend’s floor this morning. Good times.” Then he put his fingertips under my chin, tipping my face up, and frowned. He took the bottle back out of his pocket and tapped two more tablets onto my tray. “Shake off that hangover, Heroine.”
My pulse leaped. “Since when?”
Hero put two hands down on the table and bent down, his head level with mine. “Since now.” Before I could register my surprise, his lips were on mine. The kiss was gentle and over much too quickly. He straightened up, leaving me reeling. “Don’t make me beg, Heroine. It’s hard on the knee.” And then he walked away, into the kitchen.
There was a deep silence at our table for a moment, punctuated by a squeal from Roommate. I felt my self turning a dark shade of red. “Already?” Teammate gaped.
Team Captain snickered. “Looks like Heroine lined her shot up before the whistle blew.”

38077 I also just finished the third in Sharon Shinn's latest series. I didn't like it as much as the first two, which I loved, but it was good. And I suspect from what we see of Leah in this book that the fourth will be great.

After a frustrating period where most of what I started wasn't interesting enouh to complete, I've had a bunch of really excellent books lately--this one, A Talent for Trickery, several Sarina Bowens, Cold Hearted Rake, Last Chance Christmas Ball (particularly the Joanna Bourne one), and a couple of collections of Mary Balogh's short stories that I hadn't read before. I hope this continues!

38077 I finished Game Plan--definitely not up to the level of the first two books.

However I just finished Alissa Johnson's new book A Talent For Trickery. And I loved it. Can't wait for the next in the series.

Now I'm reading Sarah Mayberry's Christmas novella. It's ok...not up to her usual standard but worth reading.

38077 I'm not a fan of jerk hero's but I guess I should give it another try
Nov 03, 2015 05:37PM

38077 Wow. I think that's the only Gibson I didn't read through
Nov 02, 2015 05:41AM

38077 No idea.

38077 Reading Game Plan by Callihan but so far not impressed. The characters are internally inconsistent I think--of course everyone is inconsistent but these are in unbelievable ways...

38077 Definitely haven't read it and definitely want to!

38077 Hi
I haven't heard from Kritika--would someone else like to post this week?
