38077 Oh, I know this book! One of my auto-buy authors, and a really unusual plot.

38077 Emma Wildes His Sinful Secret. My first by her and so far quite good.
Feb 11, 2011 05:33PM

38077 I'm reading "Soulless: The Parasol Protectorate". Although I don't generally like paranormals, don't read vampire books or werewolf books...I'm having such fun with this. She has a wonderfully snarky sense of humor.

38077 I'm reading Maggie Osborne's Silver Lining. Very good. Has anyone read her other books? What should I try next by her?
Feb 07, 2011 07:55AM

38077 I'm going to read Soulless from the Parasol Protectorate series. I saw it on Jo Bournes website and it intrigued me. Has anyone read it? What did you think?

38077 I'm curious what people put--especially for the best contemporary romance (I put Instant Temptation by Shalvis), Best Paranormal ( Maybe This Time by Crusie), Funniest (10Things I love About you) , and most disappointing (Christmas Eve at Friday Harbour). I put Mina in The Iron Duke for most kickass heroine--I wonder if anyone else will.... Forbidden Rose swept most of my votes and Courtney Milan was best new author for me.

38077 I finished Notorious. Wow. Its rare that you can read two such wonderful books in the same week (this and Unveiled.)
I also finished the rereading I wanted to do for the AAR poll...2010 was a good year.

38077 I finished Unveiled. It was wonderful. One of those romances where they are both adults. Just a lovely book.
Now I'm about 50 pages in to notorious. So far it's fabulous.

38077 Monica I have to say that I was disappointed. I love her Wilder brother series where we really can see what attracts the couples to eachother as well as like them individally. In this book Brady and Lilah are both very likable and the sexual attraction is strong but it's hard to see what about Lilah draws Brady. And the role of the western Rockies was so ce teal to the characters in the Wilder series that i was disappointed to feel like this book could have been set anywhere.
I will probably give it a 3
on the other hand I really liked the new Molly okeefe his wife for one night.
Is it just me or are there a lot of contemps out there right now w characters who were abused or in foster care or both? I'm reading Sarah Mayberrys the last goodbye and the hero there was abused by his dad: the hero in the new okeefe was abused by his mom: the hero in animal magnetism was in foster care (and looks like the next two in that series will be about his foster brothers. Actually, the set up for those two stories looks great.)

38077 Reading shalvis Animal Magnetism. Not sure what I think (except that ahe has a thing about siblings coming in 3s).

38077 I am finishing rereading last nights scandal. then I'm going to rereading barely a lady....
Jan 31, 2011 04:16PM

38077 I know haven't read it!
Jan 29, 2011 11:45AM

38077 Yes. I really liked it and also was amazed at how well it worked.

38077 I'm rereading favorites from the year for the AAR poll and realizing there are not enough categories. I need a best journey of self discovery for Wicked Becomes You and Best historical about everyday people for Marrying the Royal Marine and best fairytale for A Kiss At Midnight and Best Return of Favorite characters for Last nights Scandal and Best Reuniting of Separated couple for Barely a Lady.....they don't fit any
of the given categories.

38077 It's a lovely book- a lot of fun.
It does feel like a fairy tale more than a romance---or rather, more than an EJ romance. This series of fairy tales doesn't dig as deep emotionally as most Ej books do. It's delightful and frothy but the climax is more external events and not internal emotional growth --there is some of course but not as much. I love it but it and Kiss at Midnight a different type of book I think

38077 Just read The Demon Bride by Jo Beverley. A little bizarre ...
And I read Scandal of the Year by Gurhke. She handles the nature of divorce at the beginning of the 20 th century beautifully. And the hero is great. I wasn't as taken by the heroine...but she made it work.

38077 Also, can anyone explain what the guiltiest pleasure category is about? I assume that the most disappointing is the one we looked forward to the most but was least what we hoped for.

38077 Speaking of Vorkosigan...I just found this on line about Lois Bujold's next book, from a recent interview with her. I imagine this will come out sometime in 2012 or 13. I can't wait.
"MJ: What’s next? Do you have anything underway?

LMB: I’m working on a series prequel, a sort of bon-bon for series fans (and me) starring Miles’s feckless cousin Ivan. The mode so far is comedy/romantic-suspense or something like that. It ran well last winter, stalled in the summer, was totally derailed by the extended CryoBurn promotional push, and has just undergone corrective surgery in an effort to get it to walk upright once more. We’ll see. No contract or deadline at present, to my immense relief. Some fans recorded the readings I did from Chapter One on the recent book tour, which are up on-line somewhere. No title or pub date yet, either.
