Would the characters from The Body work for this task? Castle Rock is a working class town, the boys are mostly from broken homes, on their way to becoming juvenile delinquents (not usually used to refer to the misbehaivng rich kids), with little prospects ahead of them.

Since I can't get hold of The Talented Mr. Ripley through any of my RL or electronic sources, my husband tells me Flashman will work for this, and he is begging me to read it. He is a secret agent, the blurb on my copy refers to him as an imposter, but looking for approval.
It’s more a case of his true nature was not known. He does dress in a disguise, but that is very brief
