35559 Day 2
5. In this world, many choose enhancements that help them in their chosen jobs—and most seem to come with a Monkey’s Paw–style drawback. On one hand, Din’s enhancement gives him perfect memory, so he never forgets anything. On the other hand, he can never forget anything, even if he wants to.
If you could be augmented with a skill or ability, what would it be and why? Alternatively, what would be the worst or most dreaded skill/ability you could get?
To be able to sleep anywhere and anytime—sounds funny, but I’m ALWAYS sleep-deprived, lol!

6. I thought it was interesting that the leviathans are getting bigger every year, and that most of the special grafts and suffusions come from collected titan bits and bones. Do you have any theories about how this will come into play later?
Not really, I’m skimming this book. I’m just not feeling it!

7. “…I no longer formed normal memories. For a memory is just a sketch a mind makes of one’s experiences, imperfect and interpretive; yet what my mind made, from that moment on, was perfect, absolute, and endless.”
Do you think this robs Din of the ability to be fully human, given that one’s subjective take on the world is part of what makes a person “human”?
Yeah—to be able to form opinions and feel emotions is what makes one human.

8. I’m enjoying the evolving relationship between Ana and Din, especially Ana’s humor. Despite Ana joking that Din had “lost his sense of humor in some tragic accident,” what’s your take on the two of them? Do you think Din cheated somehow to pass his tests, or is it something else?
I’m enjoying their banter. Hmm… no?

Day 3 – Part III, Chapters 13–20
9. We’re on the move now and hearing more about the environment. Can you picture the world? How do you feel about the mix of genres—fantasy, sci-fi, mystery?
The low-key horror elements are just not doing it for me!

10. We’re seeing Ana showcase her skills more, as well as her interactions with Din. Have your thoughts about them changed? What secrets, if any, do you think Ana and Din are hiding from one another?
I didn’t really get the impression that they have any secrets—maybe I missed something. I’m still enjoying their banter, and I love how Ana cares for Din in her own way.

11. Knowing this is book one and we probably won’t get much detail yet, how are you imagining the Leviathans so far? What’s your closest comparison to what they might look like?
I’m imagining trolls, haha.

35559 I was going to say Tolkien too, but I want to take my time with the book. So I don’t want to read it for the challenge.

Oh in this case, I’d say I is the harder task. Is anyone else reading a book that would fit either? We’ll swap accordingly

I gave up on it! It was unbearable 😢

35559 Has anyone read In the Likely Event? I simply cannot stand the bickering anymore. Does it get better? I’m 15% in and close to giving up

35559 I don’t think so! A in china is good! Thank you :)
35559 DQs Day 1: Chapter 1 -5

1) Do you have any expectations going in? This book is one of the 6 novels up for the Hugo award for Best Novel this year: https://www.thehugoawards.org/hugo-hi.... Did you know that and do you try to read the Hugo books or winners or have no interactions with the awards?

I’ve tried to read this book so many times in the past but have never made it past chapter 5. Let’s see if this time is any different! I don’t really look at awards. Historically, I’ve never really enjoyed books that have won awards. I’m a weirdo!

2) What do you think of the world building so far? Are then any particular details that stand out and if this is a reread, is anything standing out more on your re-read this early in the story? (please use spoiler tags if applicable)

It’s harder to follow than a typical fantasy book, especially in an audiobook.

3) So this runs right up to the edge/ crosses over into body horror between the murder scene and modifications to people? Do you read body horror or books with that theme in it? Do you have any favorites?

Yeah that scene was icky! No, I usually avoid any gruesome books.

4) Does your version have a map? If it does, did you look at before reading or at any point when reading this first section? Do you like maps in books?
Audio only! Thank you for posting the map :) I love maps in books! I frequently refer back to them through the story.
