35559 Keeping on track to a book per month.
Finished Johannes Cabal the Detective (Johannes Cabal, #2) by Jonathan L. Howard
which was a great mix of dark humour, mystery and steampunk. The next books in the series are free on audible so I need to just keep going so I don't forget it all again (6 years between reading books 1 and 2 was a bit too long!)
35559 @Judith
It is an effective way to kick start the book! The more I read the more I reflect on the start and even went back and skimmed it a bit 😬
35559 @Lexi

Interesting point about the style.I'm not sure if I expected it to be older than the wayward Chilren, but yes it does start with Roger and Dodger at a young age so maybe that is why.
35559 @Lily

The Hand of Glory makes sense!

I haven't read 'Over the Woodward Wall' either, but I probably will once I've finished this.
I still have books 7 and 8 of Wayward Children to go. This one does have a similar style to me.

35559 Exit Strategy (The Murderbot Diaries, #4) by Martha Wells
Finished this one. It is a good series as each book is more like a novella so easy to pick up and finish in a day. Book 4 shows murderbot assimilating more. May even get book 5 for this challenge depending on how my other reads go this month which I have already commited to for Uno

Book VII The End - Deed

1. How do you feel about the book starting with the ending? What are you thoughts on the overall style?

2. I have the audio and the hardcover and the cover image is much more striking on the hardcover. Any theories on what it represents?

3. Asphodel believed "the balance between language and mathematics: the two methods through which Man has always been able to influence and even command Nature. The Doctrine must thus be viewed as the most dangerous and the most desirable of alchemical incarnations".
Does this make Roger and Dodger incredibly dangerous once they gain more knowledge, or unwitting weapons for Reed (or both?).

4. Is this book meeting your expectations so far? Have you read other books by McGuire (or 'Mira Grant')?

5. What do you think of the excerpts of "Over the Woodward wall"? Are they foreshadowing something for Roger and Dodger?

35559 End of Month
Total audiobooks read this year: 5

MY MONTHLY RECOMMENDATION (and why):

In category - Cut and Run by Ben Acker narrated by Meg Ryan and it was very silly and quick

Not in category - Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin I loved it and can't wholly explain why. Just a great character driven novel exploring the development and destruction of friendships

35559 You’re a much faster reader than me, Sammy so I’m sure you’ll catch up!!
I wanted to get as much read as possible before UNO begins

Midsummer
Chapters 1-6

(chp 1"Of Priests and Pirates" - Chp6 "The Quickening of the Vivacia")

After my initial confusion, I am really enjoying this.

I'm really curious to see how Brashen's character develops and how his loyalty stays with Althea (or not? I feel like he will stick by her).

Kyle is of course vile and I do wonder how the Vivacia will react to him now that it has quickened.
(In some ways I'm getting Pillar of the Earth flashbacks - I hope Kyle doesn't end up quite that bad :o )
I love the idea that the Vivacia will now be a character and I'm intrigued about what that means.

As much as Ephron tried to tell Althea why he had done this, it feels like a poor excuse to me. And cowardly in how she finds it out.

Oh and I almost forgot about Kennit. I guess he will be back in the picture soon and cross over into Althea's storyline. I'm not sure what to think of him yet

The Good Neighbour by Richard Jay Parker
The Good Neighbour by Richard Jay Parker

He isn’t who you think he is…
When Leah Talbot hits a deer on a deserted road near her village she spots a light on in a nearby house and approaches, hoping that someone is home.

He is.

Charming, handsome, Martin Tate answers the door to the bedraggled and traumatised Leah, inviting her in. Though she’s not there for long, Leah feels an indescribable pull to the man who has helped in her hour of need.

But when she returns the next morning to say thank you, it isn’t Martin who answers the door this time. It’s the police.

There’s been a brutal murder and the sole female resident is dead.

There’s no sign of Martin…
Until he comes looking for Leah.

35559 This theme was harder than I thought, but the two books I've found I'm happy with. Both continue a series I'm in, and with David Tennant narrating one, nothing can go wrong ;)
