12. Dark adventures of chapter 10 portraying Ginny Greenteeth and her clan, strike me as important in summing up the central theme of the book. Do you agree? Thoughts?
Let me attempt this...Sometimes when you are lost and your looking for someone to believe in you, you will find the first person that comes your way and not realize the problem before its to late
13. Peter’s flashbacks and mind wanderings seem to provide a glimpse to understanding his difficult past and the lack of familial bonding. Do you think “The Lady” will fulfill his need for maternal love, or will it create more problems for him?
I don't think it will fulfil his need because he idolizes her that can not be healthy for familial bonding. This is going to end poorly.
14. Ulfgar is very threatened by Peter’s new found favor with “The Lady”. What do you think is at the root of his insecurities?
The green eye monster of jealousy he is angry that Peter has developed a closer relationship in such a short time than what he has accomplished his entire life
15. For those of us who don't typically read fantasy, "The Child Thief" seems to be a bit hard to get into. The vivid descriptions and creepy adventures keep us going on.
Would you be tempted to read this book again to discover some missed underlying meanings?
I don't usually reread books, but I do enjoy a good dark fantasy and wouldn't say no to another.

Just to make sure only books started after the start of the challenge (in less then 24h) is eligible..."
Can we add the Child Thief (I have not finished).

Major achievement Jennifer. Should be worth points:)

Nov 3: Chapter 4-9 pages 50-126
6. Why did you join this BOM discussion? Was the book already on your to read list?
After I noticed the points from TT4 and saw what its about I couldn't resist
7. Who/what do you think the illustration on Page 52 depicts?
I'm thinking it is a flesh eater, not to far off from my likeness when I'm hungry.
8. Do you think that we'll meet Queen Modron, the lady of the lakes? If so, what role do you think she'll play in the story?
So far, I'm having trouble seeing the King Arthur reference except for the term Avalon. Maybe there will be a sword at the bottom of the lake that Nick will need to retrieve
9. Leroy is "unproven". What do you think his challenge will be to prove himself?
In act of courageous, just guessing here I have a feeling he will sacrifice himself. He needs someone some one to get through his rough exterior and show him some love. He may sacrifice himself to return it.
10. Why are they referred to as "the Devils"?
I think since they can't die and look different, the rest of society has treated them like devils and at some point they picked up that name themselves as a term of endearment
11. What time period does this novel feel set in?
The time where the kidnappings or rescue's take place has to be modern times with a Gotham feel. The time period where Pan back flashes too seems to predate Christianity in Britain. The era where Nick is right now feels like the 1500's. Captain Hook will has a ship not a boat and Peter is 1300 hundred year's old

Nov 2: Prologue-3 pages vii-49
1. I still haven't read the original Peter Pan story. Most of what I associate with Pan is based on what I remember from the Disney film. Have you read the book? If so, did you like it? Have you watched any of the adaptations?
I have not read the book although it is on my TBR. Like most people on here I have seen the Disney film adaptions and it didn't impress me enough where I would watch it again.
2. Have you read or watched any retellings of fairy stories before? Have any been darker versions of the original? What is your favourite retelling? Is there a fairy tale that you would like to see retold?
I like retellings of fairy tales. I did enjoy Grimm and Once Upon a Time. I also read graphic novels of the retellings. I enjoy how much darker they are compared to Disney. I can't think of any fairy tale that has not been retold.
3. This story really is dark. Right from the first page. Most books I've read, even the horror ones, ease you into the story but not this one. What do you think of the story so far?
I like how it grabs you right away and doesn't keep it a secret that this isn't Disney's Peter Pan.
4. I'm not sure what to make of Peter. From the book description he seemed to be darker than the original but not too bad being described as 'a brave friend'. However, so far to me he doesn't seem to have any redeeming features. What are your impressions of him?
He's a cold blooded killer and doesn't apologize for it. I rather enjoy watching him slaughter the drags of society. That isn't very nice of me.
5. Peter calls the island Avalon. Do you think there is any connection with the Avalon from Arthurian legend?
A Barghest is a spirit from the North of England and the Sluagh are spirits of the restless dead in Irish and Scottish folklore. So there does seem to be a bit of a Celtic vibe going on.
There has to be something there. I'm not that familiar with King Arthur but to use it in a retelling like this can't be a coincidence.

I've seen a couple of people post the tv shows they're watching so I'll add mine. Me and my other half are big into sci-fi so we've been watching all the Star Trek shows plus Babylo..."
I just saw a trailer for the new Star Trek show CBS is making...looks pretty good.

My wife loves HTGAWM, to much of a roller coaster for me. I like more comedy and less drama in these shows. Leverage or NCIS could be my favorite show. The right touch of drama and comedy.

I am always excited to see someone from Iowa. I'm from the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. I miss it a lot, but I could never move back because after living in Indy the last 7 years I've become a food snob.
