The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec - June 2022 Theme BOM - Mythology (starts 16 June 2022)

16. She has died at least three times, I don't find it weird that she didn't remember her previous lives. Perhaps she endured pain then as well. It might be her mind is trying to protect her. With the way this story is heading, I suspect she might need all her power in order to survive.
17. I would have preferred not to know. If you know you might want to change things and doing that might be just the thing that makes the future come true. Angrboda hasn't seen everything, but I don't think she is able to change what she has seen.
18. Loki is like an onion, with several layers. He is difficult to understand, seems to have several personalities, and might have more than one goal to achieve with the things he does. I wouldn't be surprised if he killed Balder for Hel to have a playmate, but he also managed to hurt Odin by doing it. Loki is what he is, I think Angrboda knows this and might forgive him in the end.
19. Skadi is a hunter and a warrior. Knowing the end is to come, I'm not surprised she chose to go down fighting. I'm not sure why she accepted the marriage in the first place, but it is clear it was never compensation enough for her father's death.
20. I think Ragnarok will happen, but how things will end for those who didn't die in the prophecy is hard to say.

I grew up with Norse mythology and recognize all the stories. I like how they seem to make up a timeline for Loki and Angrboda's relationship as it progresses.
12. "Was I wrong to not tell them the world may not accept them the way they are?"
This is Angrboda's question after not only Loki's other wife, but Loki himself, refers to their children as monsters. How would you answer her question? Was she right to try and protect and hide them from the Nine Worlds? Should she have gone about it in a different manner?
I think not telling them they are different and that other people might treat them so, may have been a mistake. It is a bit like putting your head in the sand and hope for the best. The chance of other people finding them eventually was big, and preparing her children for how others might react, could have helped on their reaction.
13. What an ending to Part One! Did you see what was to come? Did you already know the myths before or were you completely surprised? If you already knew the myth, did you like the author's interpretation of events? Were you as angry at the world as I was reading all that happened to Angrboda and her children, cause I was ready to fight!
I knew some of the myth and knew that something would happen to the kids eventually. I cried, the scene was hard to read, you could feel the anguish and pain.
14. It seems that Angrboda's dreams can now transport her into other's thoughts. Do you think this is a one-off event because of how much stress she was under? If not, how do you think she'll use this skill from now on?
I don't understand her gift of seidr that much except the basics. She was reluctant to use it before, I don't think that will change.
15. So Angrboda has a new voice in her head. Who do you think the voice belongs to? Do you think it's connected to Angrboda's seeming inability to die? Do you think it's a friend or a foe?
I think it is a friend, but that doesn't mean the person won't use Angrboda for their own benefit.

I think it is Odin still, who else could it be?
7. Skadi reappears in this section, having left her husband behind. Do you think he'll come back into the story later? Why do you think she chose a husband as recompense in the first place?
As she didn't divorce him, it is a chance he'll show up again, but probably not as an important person to the story. If I understood correctly, she didn't choose a husband, she was given a husband and a bellyfull of laughter. It was a poor recompense for her dead father, but perhaps she thought she wouldn't get anything, least of all her revenge, if she didn't accept.
8. Hel was born with "dead" legs (or dead flesh on fully functioning legs? I'm honestly a little confused by it) and when she over exerts herself she starts turning blue. Angrboda attributes this to when she tried to save her daughter — but I'm not so sure. Do you have any theories on what the cause could be? Is it as simple as Angrboda believes, or do you think it's something bigger to be revealed later on?
It is a bit weird that using her very special legs should make her turn blue. Turning blue is usually a sign on lack of oxygen, so she might have som cardiovascular problems. But this is in the realm of the gods, so it might just be the legs that are causing it.
9. There have been several mentions of a witch who birthed a race of wolves who chase the sun and moon so far in the story — and now Angrboda has given birth to a wolf. Do you think she is the Old one the stories reference? Or, if not, do you think we will meet that character later on?
She doesn't remember much of her previous lives, but the forest it turning green because of her presence, so there is a possibility that she is that person.
10. Angrboda decides not to tell Loki about his and his family's involvement in her vision of the beginning of the end. What do you think of her decision? Do you think she made the right choice in not telling him?
Loki doesn't want to know his future, so I'm guessing that even if she wanted to tell him, he wouldn't let her.

I've just finished playing Assasins's Creed Valhalla, where Angrboda was one of the characters, making me more interested in her story. I'm also a fan of Norse Mythology, which is the mythology I grew up with.
2.) What did you think of Angrboda's first meeting with Loki? I mean he brought her heart back in his knapsack basically because he was bored. But he was so charming, I'm not sure I'd care either. Though it didn't hurt I kept picturing him as Tom Hiddleston. LOL
Loki is a character that is hard to describe. I think even if she had decided not to like him, she would have had a hard time following through with it. He does sound like a person who simply can't sit still and if something isn't happening around him, he'll do something to make something does happen=P
3.) Thoughts on Skadi? Why do you think she helped Angrboda in the first place? And to such an extent? If Skadi was male, how different do you think that interaction would of been?
It's hard reading her. She might have done it for profit, pure curiosity, or simply because she felt sorry for Angrboda. A male would probably not have helped in such a way.
4.) The quote from Skadi, "Time doesn't matter unless you are keeping track of it." Resonated with me. What do you think of this? Do you agree with the statement?
I think it is hard not to keep track of time in one way or another, but if you are able to live completely in the now, it might be true.
5.) Loki's reaction to the pregnancy was, let's go with interesting. What type of father are you expecting him to be? Do you think he will be a functioning part of the child's life?
I think he will, at the start, have intentions of being a good father, but he is a bit whimsical and his brain jumps from one thing to another in a second, so it won't work. He won't be around much.

I hope it doesn't get any worse than mild symptoms for you!

I'm so excited for a new round of Tower Teams! I think I've played each year since Tower Team V.
My name is Silje, I'm from Norway. I'm studying to become a dental hygienist, hopefully, I'll be finished next month. In addition, I work at a bookstore part-time (which I love!).
I dabble in many genres, but my go-to's are urban fantasy, romance, and thrillers/crime. Over the past few years, I've been listening more and more to audiobooks, probably because I can multitask when I do so=P I too would love to do a re-read of Anne Bishop's The Others series, but sadly I think it is less than six months since the last time I did it.
