35559 Only two days left until my final exam this semester! I can't wait to be able to read fun books without feeling guilty for not reading curriculum books=P

I started reading Equal Rites this morning and are pleasantly surprised so far=)
35559 I have an exam on Tuesday, so I started reading this BOM a little late.

1. If you are new or relatively new to Discworld, what do you think of Pratchett’s world and writing style so far? For more experienced Pratchett readers, what are your favorite things about his writing style or Discworld in general?
I haven't read anything from Pratchett before, so Discworld is new to me. I feel like he is writing as if there are no boundaries in the world, nothing is unlikely or impossible. I love that he includes a few sentences with observations or thoughts from figures/characters that aren't important to the main storyline, but adds a little extra "color" for the reader's enjoyment, such as the white cat and the eagle.

2. So we have our plucky heroine Esk and her witchy mentor Granny Weatherwax. What do you think of our two main characters and their relationship with each other?
Granny is an interesting character. She continues to deny that girls can be wizards, but she doesn't seem to mind teaching Esk witch magic, knowing that she might turn out be become something new. I haven't really gotten a good impression of Esk yet, but she seems stubborn, impulsive, and observant.

3. A major theme is witch magic vs. wizard magic (and women vs. men), and I can’t wait to learn more about these different magical theories and world views. What do you think of this dynamic, and which type of magic are you more drawn to?
Men and women in separate boxes of society, both with a set of expected skills isn't anything new. Neither is a character who will disrupt the world's way of thinking. I'm curious as to how Pratchett will go about doing it=) I don't have green fingers at all, so I'm more inclined towards wizard magic.

4. Oh dear. Esk went a bit too far with the borrowing. What do you think is going to happen next? And what will Granny say or do?
I suspect Esk will learn a lesson about thinking before doing, learning before jumping into things. Whether that lesson will stick remains to be seen. Granny doesn't seem too frightened for Esk, so I suspect she'll say something like "told you so..."=P

35559 I've gone back and forth between fun reading and exam reading this weekend=) The weather was great, so I sat outside and ended up getting sunburned.

I planned to read The Foundling, but I won't manage it before the BOM deadline.

35559 I just finished Three Women. Not my cup of tea, but a fascinating read. I ended up listening to the audio rather than reading the book, so I will change the links and stuff when I get home to my laptop=)

35559 I have been reading way faster than planned so far this month! I think I use reading fiction as a form of procrastinating when I'm supposed to be studying for a test tomorrow(!) and an exam in June=P The test is graded with Passed/Failed, and I'm quite familiar with the subject, so hopefully, it will be alright even if I haven't studied as much as I planned on.

I discovered that my local library has both the Foundling (Norwegian version) and Equal Rites, though none were available right now, so I'll have to wait a bit on those. But, the Norwegian translation of Equal Rites was available, so I borrowed that in the meantime, though I'm a bit skeptical about reading a translated book as my introduction to the Discworld universe=P

35559 Is the square around the title blue enough to count for "something blue" in tasks "only men (or man) plus something blue"?
Rebel Heir (Rush Duet, #1) by Vi Keeland

35559 I'm halfway through the audio version of Romancing Mister Bridgerton (The Bridgerton Series) by Julia Quinn , which is the fourth in the series. It is quite entertaining, but I think I liked the three previous books better.

35559 Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Bridgertons, #4) by Julia Quinn
Can the items on this cover work for Something gold or silver on the cover? It looks like both the mirror and the jewelry case are gold or at least golden.

35559 I might be able to get a reviewer's copy of the Norwegian edition of The Foundling from the publisher through my job (it was published not too long ago). If so, I'll participate in the BOM.

I got my books from the library today, so I'll start with Blood Bound (Mercy Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs and probably the next book in the Bridgerton series on audio=)

35559 Question about recommended books: When a person is recommending a series, but only the first book is linked, do we have to read the first book for it to count or can we read any book in the series?

35559 It is almost 2.30 AM and I should have been in bed hours ago, but the life of an Uno-captain isn't always easy=P I mention this because I need something to blame for my brain being mush at the moment:
Can someone clarify what "inept" means (task 11: MC is inept)? And what does "title in format x and y" mean?

35559 I tend to do end up with a lot of rereads during these kinds of challenges. Anybody else who does that?

I've already started rereading Patricia Briggs' Mercedes Thompson series for Uno, but this time I'm adding the books from the Alpha & Omega series in between (I haven't read those before). One of my teammates in Uno read them, and it made me want to read them too=) I have to borrow all of them at the library, though, so we'll see how it goes. They only have one copy of each book!
I also plan on rereading the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. She is one of my favorite fantasy authors. If anyone is into audiobooks, I recommend listening to The Others series by Bishop. Great world, fascinating characters, and the narrator is portraying the characters perfectly with different voices and personalities for each one.

35559 And I ended up watching all eight episodes in one go! It was a great show; I think they managed to blend the stories quite well after all. I hope the show is allowed to continue=)

35559 I'm watching the fourth episode of Shadow and Bone right now. I haven't read the Six of crows-books, so I'm not very familiar with their storyline. So far, I enjoy it, but I get why some reviewers dislike that the producers have mixed two book series that have very little in common besides being set in the same universe. That is a lot of story to cram into only eight episodes. A question for those who have read all the books and seen the series: Are Nina's story part of any of the books, or is it a third, made-up storyline?

35559 Are we allowed to use the series name and translator/narrator names for letters in this challenge? Some challenges say yes and some no, so I thought it wise to check. I couldn't find it in the rules (if it's there and I missed it, I blame it on my poor eyesight=P).

35559 Hi all!

My name is Silje, 30, from Norway. I work part-time in a bookstore and am currently retraining to become a dental hygienist.
The Discworld books have been recommended to me several times, but I've never been motivated enough to pick one up=) My favorite genres are fantasy (mostly urban fantasy), romance, and crime, but I tend to dabble with a little bit of everything, especially in these challenges!

My shelf is here, I completely forgot to make it after signing up=P

35559 Time went by so fast! It was fun playing with you all and getting to know you. I hope I'll see you in other challenges. Thanks, Ashleigh, for doing a great job as captain =)

35559 These weeks have been slightly crazy. University started last Monday and we were supposed to have a week of activities and small events to get to know the other people in the class (or half the class due to covid-19 restrictions), but this got canceled after two days when a student tested positive for covid-19. And yesterday I was told that my application to skip a year, because of my previous education, was granted, so today I had classes with a whole new bunch of people! Needless to say, I haven't done much reading. I think Two Witches and a Whiskey will be my last book for this challenge=)

35559 Yes, Logan, that's correct. Sadly, since we didn't have the X in our fifth word, that word counted as our incomplete word and any books placed at the sixth word wouldn't have counted anyway.
