I started reading Equal Rites this morning and are pleasantly surprised so far=)

1. If you are new or relatively new to Discworld, what do you think of Pratchett’s world and writing style so far? For more experienced Pratchett readers, what are your favorite things about his writing style or Discworld in general?
I haven't read anything from Pratchett before, so Discworld is new to me. I feel like he is writing as if there are no boundaries in the world, nothing is unlikely or impossible. I love that he includes a few sentences with observations or thoughts from figures/characters that aren't important to the main storyline, but adds a little extra "color" for the reader's enjoyment, such as the white cat and the eagle.
2. So we have our plucky heroine Esk and her witchy mentor Granny Weatherwax. What do you think of our two main characters and their relationship with each other?
Granny is an interesting character. She continues to deny that girls can be wizards, but she doesn't seem to mind teaching Esk witch magic, knowing that she might turn out be become something new. I haven't really gotten a good impression of Esk yet, but she seems stubborn, impulsive, and observant.
3. A major theme is witch magic vs. wizard magic (and women vs. men), and I can’t wait to learn more about these different magical theories and world views. What do you think of this dynamic, and which type of magic are you more drawn to?
Men and women in separate boxes of society, both with a set of expected skills isn't anything new. Neither is a character who will disrupt the world's way of thinking. I'm curious as to how Pratchett will go about doing it=) I don't have green fingers at all, so I'm more inclined towards wizard magic.
4. Oh dear. Esk went a bit too far with the borrowing. What do you think is going to happen next? And what will Granny say or do?
I suspect Esk will learn a lesson about thinking before doing, learning before jumping into things. Whether that lesson will stick remains to be seen. Granny doesn't seem too frightened for Esk, so I suspect she'll say something like "told you so..."=P

I planned to read The Foundling, but I won't manage it before the BOM deadline.

I discovered that my local library has both the Foundling (Norwegian version) and Equal Rites, though none were available right now, so I'll have to wait a bit on those. But, the Norwegian translation of Equal Rites was available, so I borrowed that in the meantime, though I'm a bit skeptical about reading a translated book as my introduction to the Discworld universe=P

Can the items on this cover work for Something gold or silver on the cover? It looks like both the mirror and the jewelry case are gold or at least golden.

I got my books from the library today, so I'll start with

Of course! *facepalm* Thanks=)

Can someone clarify what "inept" means (task 11: MC is inept)? And what does "title in format x and y" mean?

I've already started rereading Patricia Briggs' Mercedes Thompson series for Uno, but this time I'm adding the books from the Alpha & Omega series in between (I haven't read those before). One of my teammates in Uno read them, and it made me want to read them too=) I have to borrow all of them at the library, though, so we'll see how it goes. They only have one copy of each book!
I also plan on rereading the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. She is one of my favorite fantasy authors. If anyone is into audiobooks, I recommend listening to The Others series by Bishop. Great world, fascinating characters, and the narrator is portraying the characters perfectly with different voices and personalities for each one.

My name is Silje, 30, from Norway. I work part-time in a bookstore and am currently retraining to become a dental hygienist.
The Discworld books have been recommended to me several times, but I've never been motivated enough to pick one up=) My favorite genres are fantasy (mostly urban fantasy), romance, and crime, but I tend to dabble with a little bit of everything, especially in these challenges!
My shelf is here, I completely forgot to make it after signing up=P
