35559 The Malevolent Seven Adult BOM May 2024 (Starts 16 May 2024) - Day 5

Chapters 40 - 56

20. Cade goes to each of the other travellers and has final words with them. Do you think he learned any new information about his travellers? Or did he learn something about himself?

I think this was a wasted opportunity and could have been used to give us more information about each of the characters.

21. The journey to The Seven Brothers is full of many challenges. Did this journey remind you of any other quest you've read?

Again, a wasted opportunity! This would have been the perfect time to learn more about the history of the world and the magic, the backgrounds of each of the characters…

22. We now find out about the Pandorals, how they were using The Seven Brothers as vessels. Quite interesting how this was accomplished. Did this surprise you how they were formed ? What did you think of why they came to acquire the red soil?

Now this part was interesting! I knew all along that there was something larger going on behind the scenes and nothing was what it seemed and this bit proved it to me.

23. It was determined that Cade be the one to use the apparatus. What attunement do you think he chose?

I first thought he chose Fortunal magic because of Corrigan asking him about it. But reading the part where he coughs and then says that he would “probably be doing a lot of that, given what I’d just done to myself”, I think we will only get to know what it actually is in the sequel.

24. What was your overall impression of this story? What was your favorite part of the story? Will you read the next in the series or try one of the authors other series?

I enjoyed reading the book despite the aspects that could have done with more work. My favourite part is definitely the characters, and wanting to know what happens to them next means that I will probably carry on with the series. Not before I read the other series by this author, many of which have been recommended to me several times.

35559 The Malevolent Seven Adult BOM May 2024 (Starts 16 May 2024) - Day 4

Chapters 28 - 39

15. The way the different characters react to the trek through the magic wasteland is interesting. With all the magic that flows through this world, why do they not have transport spells? Did this trek remind you of any other stories?

I think it is partially that none of them is attuned to a kind of magic that allows for transport spells and partially because the whole mixed group walking through a terrible landscape allows for the story to continue with the members bonding, learning some more of their stories etc. This seems to be a often used plot device and I have read books that contained similar travels.

16. We keep being reminded (by the narrator) that the wanderists are not good guys. Do you agree with this assessment?

This was one of the things that irked me greatly. I got sick and tired of being reminded of the same thing over and over. I mean, I get it, we are supposed to realise that they have been conditioned into believing that wonderists are the baddies but I think a few less references would have been neater.

17. What is your impression of the seven brothers? The Pandorals are benevolent? Really? Do we believe that?

Benevolent!!! Absolutely not! The seven brothers definitely have something tremendously nefarious going on and I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if they turned out to be the worst of the lot.

18. So. We get to see the apparatus. What would you have done with that temptation?

Finally!!! I don’t think I would trust it to not come with some serious consequences. I would definitely destroy it to prevent it from being misused by others.

19. Is anyone who they say they are? Did you expect Mr. Bones?

Nope, that was a complete surprise. I was expecting something weird and wacky with Tenebris telling them that the 7th member would meet them at the location of the seven brothers but not that!
