I hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks so much Aish and Steph for captaining!

And on a side note - wow I need to continue on with Jane Yellowrock. I got stuck in the series because some of the books are expensive and weren't at my library. I wonder if they are now.

Andy that's a great quote!
And Kaley - great job with that BOM!

9. If you were confronted with Lord Mountjoy Quickfang Winterforth IV’s ominously rumbling tummy and the prospect of more dragon fire, how would you react?
After seeing what even a tiny hiccup can do, I would have done my best to stay well away with all my treasures. But, I still want a little dragon.
10. If you witnessed a massive dragon being vanquished in one sword hit, would you entirely believe it or do you think you may hold suspicions on the “neatness”? I think I would wonder about the lack of dragon lumps. I HOPE I would wonder, and I might still be a little worried, but I would want to believe so much that I just might be gullible.
11. This section cemented my love for Lady Sybil, with her no-nonsense stern reproach of the dragon. If she had maintained eye contact, do you think her approach would have worked? It might have. But sooner or later she would have had to look away. I love Lady Sybil too.
12. Since the beginning of the book, has your opinion on Captain Vimes changed? If so, why? I think after seeing more of what he has to deal with, and seeing how he interacts with Lady Sybil, my opinion of him has improved a lot.

And Sammy - that is indeed a masterpiece. Nice job!!

I cannot believe it's the last week! My reading has slowed down this summer as compared to the school year - it's weird because I'm much busier with school. I think the issue is summer is a different busy which doesn't allow as much time for audio books :)

I think the Patrician is so interesting, and even after reading most of the Discworld books, he is so mysterious to me. I don't remember any reason for why he doesn't like mimes (although I may have missed it) but I seem to remember the dislike is mentioned in other books.
6. What about Lady Sybil as the "heroine" or female MC of the book? She certainly seems to be the complete opposite of how "classical heroines" are represented in fantasy or other books. Have you met her counterpart / someone very like her in non-DW books or films? Would you get a pet dragon if you had the chance?
I love Lady Sybil - she loves her hobby and studies about it and doesn't really care what others think - and she's tough. I would totally get a pet dragon because...dragons!
7. If you are familiar with the detective fiction/mystery genre, do you think Guards! Guards! has been following a similar structure in its idiosyncratic way so far?
I kind of feel more like this is picking on the "chosen one" fantasy trope.
8. Maybe it's too early to ask this question, but I am not a character to able to resist the temptation of it. Please forgive me.
So, any ideas, who which actors/actress would you choose as Lord Vetinari / Sam Vimes / Carrot / Lady Sybil. ...etc if you were a casting director?
Because I'm on team Rincewind, I'd HAVE to pick Chris Hemsworth for Carrot. For Sam Vimes, maybe Russell Crowe. I think I'd like Samuel L. Jackson for Lord Vetinari. Octavia Spencer for Lady Sybill - I think she could carry it off well.

1. For the newbies: what did you expect before opening a police procedural written by Pterry? For re-readers, how does this sub-series line up in your order of preferences?
The City Watch sub series is probably my favorite - hmm...or the Death sub series...or the Moist one.
2. The first person we meet in this story is Vimes, meet collapsing, drunker, into the gutter... What does this mean for the story? For newbies: how do you feel about Vimes? I had forgotten Vimes "origins" and I'm really enjoying re-reading this one! Boy I can see why he is in the gutter though - what a hopeless situation at the start - being on the Watch would be very discouraging.
3. The Brethren (and I loved the elaborate exchange of codes!) have a disussion of the Lost King trope. Do you think the Supreme Grand Master will be able to find Ankh-Morpork's Lost King??? I don't think he wants to. BUT I love the trope - how they need to find a farmboy, etc. So so true - I read so many fantasy books like that around the time this book was written.
4. Carrot is our route to discovering Ankh-Morpork. Do you find this an effective way to understanding the city and its issues? I think it is because the comparison between his ideas and reality is priceless. I love the brothel/boarding house. Carrot is just so positive and good.

You need another vacation Kaley!
