Some of that may be driven by the fact that its finals week. I even want to clean my house and exercise...because I just can't this week. That desire will disappear as soon as I'm done grading :)

After reading the two lines about Jenny's dream, I kind of want to go back to sleep, just in case :)

6. Were you surprised to find out Daniel had a wife? I personally was super surprised as I originally believed him when he said he was single. What do you think of the way Daniel died? I believed him when he said he was single too. I'm not suspicious about his death, but then I believed the single part :) I think he had a brain aneurysm.
7. How do you think Alexandra Callard knew about Bess and her daughter? I think maybe someone working at the foundling hospital recognized the whalebone. What I can't figure out is why Alexandra even wanted a child, as damaged as she is.
8. What do you think of the way Alexandra and Charlotte live? Do you think Alexandra keeps Charlotte home to stop her from being recognized or because she is truly scared of the real world? I think she is really scared of the world and acted like this before she got Charlotte also. The early scene where she had tea with her "parents' was kind of eerie.
9. "Eliza" has been fired on her first day. What do you think of Alexandra's reasoning for firing her? Do you think part of Alexandra knows that she is Charlotte's real mom? I don't think Alexandra knows about the relationship. She just doesn't like deviation from the routine - its upsetting.
10. Do you think Bess will find a way to still see her daughter? How? Now that Bess knows where her daughter is, I don't think she'll be able to keep away.

1. How are you liking the writing style ? Are you enjoying the story so far? I am enjoying the style so far - I like the voice of Bess and I think the writing gets me into her head pretty well.
2. After reading that opening scene, what do you think of the practice of the Hospital taking babies based on a lottery (the coloured balls in the bag) ? I had no idea foundling hospitals existed! And at first I kind of thought the nurses, sponsors were determining the color of the balls each lady got. But anyway, I think it makes sense because if they cannot take all of the babies, how cruel to make anyone choose! It seems a lot better to leave it up to chance and maybe let the workers sleep at night.
3. At some point Bess says that "knowing she [Clara] could be anywhere instead of nowhere at all was torture even more exquisite." Implying that not knowing where her child is is worse than knowing she's dead. What's your opinion ? Or would you rather not know ? I think not knowing would usually be the worst. The imagination is so very powerful ,and it'd be way too easy to imagine awful things.
4. What do you make of the child's father, Daniel Callard ? Everyone keeps asking Bess if he's really dead. Do you suspect there's more to Daniel than we've been told so far ? Well, we hardly met him, but I didn't think much of him. For him, it seems like he basically used her as a whore and didn't even pay her. On her end, she seemed to kind of romanticize the whole thing. I have no clue if we will see him again or not.
5. Time for your theories ! Who do you think claimed Clara on the 28th of November 1747, the day after Bess gave up her baby ? I cannot imagine who could have done it other than maybe a rich person that was there the night the baby was given up. Maybe they wanted a brand newborn. But how in the world did they have Bess's information, unless someone at the Foundling hospital was involved.

And Sonia - you totally described how it works for me - that spark!
I've replaced my audio books with podcasts for the next two days and just have one (or maybe two if I start one) more visual books to finish up.

Sammy, thanks for taking on the story element. I'm so glad you are willing to do that!
I think fantasy/romance would work - although we really must include some humor, because that is fun (in my opinion anyway).

And I love that you recommended Lucifer's Hammer - I too have read it a few times, although not on audio. I LOVE thinking about what I would do if the world changed like that.

I'd love to post pictures! I love dogs too. I have an English Mastiff that is very much mine - we are pretty inseparable. My dad chose him as a companion puppy soon after my Mom died and had asked me to train him. But we just bonded so much, AND my dad decided he wasn't really up to caring for a dog at 80, so lucky me. I never would have chosen a mastiff, but he is the favorite dog I've ever had (and I've owned a lot, and loved them all). He's the first dog my husband has liked, because his personality.
My daughter is graduating as an RN in two weeks. Her 15 year old dog had to be put to sleep last fall, and she's mourned him ever since, but decided it was time, as she can train the puppy while she studies for state boards. She and her daughter (who is 8) chose a golden retriever puppy, which should be a great family dog for them. They live with us, and my dog will be in heaven to have a little buddy to play with.
Vikki - Malamutes and Huskeys are beautiful dogs! We have a couple down the street that sneak over to play every so often. :)
Gah - sorry - you guys got me talking about dogs - I'm sure you can tell I'm obsessed - dogs and books are my loves :)

I'm super excited for May 1. This is end of semester for me - I just taught my last class yesterday. I have all last weeks tests yet to grade and finals to write and give - so much to do, but then it'll be summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today I'm going to just chill and recover from my 2nd Covid shot I got yesterday. Tomorrow, we are getting a new puppy.
I got ahold of all three BOMs for May so I know I'll be reading those. I have the Andy Weir ARC that gets published early May, so I'll be reading that too. And then ??? who knows. I'm a total mood reader - glad I'm not alone!
