35559 Always good to clarify though! I think out team will still come out strong in Round 2 - you all work together so well!

And thanks! The store was out of dry ice, aaah - how dare they change one of my plans!?

35559 Well done team! It was exciting this morning waking up and seeing a whole other word completed!

What did you think of How to Sell a Haunted House, Nanci?

I'm thinking I will get a lot of reading done this weekend - I'm taking my son to Arizona for a few days - he'll be hanging out with his friends, so I will have a quiet hotel room to read as much as I want! It sounds pretty heavenly.

Today the hubby and I are doing a Halloween party for the 20 or so kids we work with. I THINK it'll all go well - fingers crossed! They are great kids, which helps :)

35559 Just a heads up (although it doesn't affect us) - some of the other teams are getting a chance to get more bonus points by like - more color covers, cities, etc. I'm really glad the Mods are doing their best to keep things competitive and fair at the same time!

Also, we are done with our first word - hooray!
35559 DQs Day 5 chapters 32 - end

19. I was excited that Louise and Mark were going to contact Aunt Gail. I liked meeting Barb. I was surprised that they could not really help, and suddenly, we were back where we started, in the creepy house with the puppets. Why do you think Barb and Aunt Gail were in the story?
I too was relieved to see Aunt Gail and Barbara and then wondered where in the world they went for the big fight scene, etc. Plus, doing an exorcism or w/e with a puppet that is known to possess other dolls, in a room full of dolls is questionable.

20. I found the horror of Poppy’s plight with Pupkin to be the most concerning. Did you find the horror in this book effective? Which parts creeped you out the most?
The dolls themselves, especially Pupkin, creeped me out the most. I dislike horror though, and didn't enjoy reading all of the fights, injuries, etc.

21. Gary Hendrix is also known for his humor. I laughed out loud when the puppets got together to form a golem. What parts (if any) did you find humorous?
I thought the extended family was the most humorous. I would have loved to see the various puppets arguing with each other in the golem.

22. I was shaking my head when Louise gave her daughter her stuffed animals. I would want no part of that house to be a part of my daughter’s life! How did you feel about that part?
I don't think my daughter would ever see another doll or puppet if I were Louise.

23. How do you feel about the ending?
Well, I was just glad to be done. I thought parts were rushed and didn't make sense, but some of that was I was trying to rush through and get on to something that didn't creep me out so much.

35559 @Leslie - I think you do have to read it / answer questions to get the points. I'm so glad to hear Violin Conspiracy is good!

@Kari - Wow - what useful books!

@LaurLa - that's wonderful about Nashville! And it does finish up our cities unless I'm counting incorrectly.

35559 In other news:
Starter Villain by John Scalzi (nominated by Bobbi) will be the book of the month starting Nov. 2. I've really been wanting to read this one! Bobbi - I believe the nomination means you automatically get to ask daily questions if you're willing. I'm personally happy that one won!

Our other book of the month is The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb starting Nov. 16th. I hadn't heard of this one before the poll, but I think I'll enjoy it.

35559 Bobbi - that is an awesome goal to look for X - thank you!

And thanks Nanci and Leslie for finding cities - we only need to find one more!

We also do need 5 books with white covers, so be sure to note it if you book has a cover that is more than 50% white :)

You are all amazing!

35559 Yay team!

Great idea to recommend some books Nanci! Horse looks really interesting - I think I'd like it!

I think my round favorite was Wishin' and Hopin' which was kind of like reading "A Christmas Story". I did not enjoy the buddy read book (How to Sell a Haunted House) - but I don't like horror, and it was scary to me! I did also enjoy Gleanings: Stories from the Arc of a Scythe, which featured short stories from the Scythe universe. As always with short stories, some were better than others, but that was a fun world to re-visit!

35559 All done entering! We are allowed to have one partial word and as many full as we want, so we're in great shape! Well done team!

I'll look at the deadline, just in case anyone finishes something else. Right now we are in 2nd place, which is absolutely amazing!

We have 7 cities claimed for round 2, so need 3 more (in the next two weeks). It'll be so fun to see what we can do!

35559 Thanks Janeylou! I agree it's hard finding the combination of letters and setting! Those mods are tricky!

I'll mark those on our list.

35559 Amanda wrote: "I have all month to read How To Sell a Haunted House and answer questions right? I just got it from my library and have a couple other books first!"

You have to finish and answer questions within a month of when the discussion starts - so by November 16th. And yes - it's basically like reading 2 books points-wise.

35559 If you feel inclined to start planning for Round 2, the sheet is in there right by Round 1. I made a pulldown of the cities we need - remember we can only use each one once. But thank goodness we only need 10.
