35559 DQ Day 1-2 : beginning to 32% (p101)

1. What attracted you to this book? Do you tend to read a lot of horror/thriller/suspense novels (or not), and what are your expectations for them?

✴I love a good cover. I saw it on the shelf at my library and it called to me. I read a ton of horror/thriller/suspense novels. My expectations for one are a plot that grabs my attention in the first 100 pages and keeps me engaged while also giving me goosebumps.

2. Poor doomed SilvertjΓ€rn was a "Company Town" where the company shut down. Do you think the 1950s sections do a good job of describing what it was like for the townspeople at that time?

3. The relationships in the modern day sections are interesting. Things seem complex and messy, especially between the female characters. Alice is the only one who knows about Tone's real connection to SilvertjΓ€rn. The bad blood between Alice and Emmy causes a lot of tension. The possible romantic entanglements are unclear. What are your thoughts about these relationships? What do you think of Alice's reasons for bringing Max, Tone, Emmy, and Robert onto this film project?

4. We're getting hints that Pastor Mattias was at the center of a weird religious sect. Do you think this will turn out to be true, or just a red herring?

5. Before the "official" DQs kicked off, our lovely mod Cat mentioned being struck by the timeliness of reading "a book about how society views women suffering from mental illness." How do you think the book has handled this topic so far?

I was reading My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell so it only fits for R as the main characters are Vanessa and Jacob and is a standalone, so no series name to go by, sadly.

I finished reading my A this afternoon. Artificial Condition

35559 Okay, new plan. Tell me what's left when y'all are done, because I just wasted my entire afternoon reading for R, only to have it snaked, after S was already taken after I called dibs.

35559 Okay, guess I'm not doing S lol

I'll get R instead.
