The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa - May 2022 Theme BOM - Animals (starts 16 May 2022)

9) Considering Satoru seems to be quite perceptive overall, do you think he knew about Sugi’s less charitable feelings about him, both in the past and during this visit?
I'm sure he could feel the tension between Sugi and himself where Chikako was concerned. I think he mentioned his feelings for her in high school to reassure Sugi that it changes nothing in the present.
10) So far, the chapters have all been combining Satoru and Nana’s journey with Satoru’s past with several other people, as well as their backgrounds. How do you feel about this interlude (chapter 3.5) focused entirely on the man and his cat? What does it add to the story?
This little interlude showed the love and companionship between Satoru and Nana. I think it added some finality to what Satoru is doing, making it so much more clear why he is looking for a home for his beloved cat.
11) For the first time, we got a hint of what’s going on with Satoru when the dog said “he smells like he isn’t going to make it” in chapter 3, and this came up again in chapter 3.5. So it sounds like Satoru is ill… was that your prediction for question 4?
It was one of my two predictions. Funny enough, my dogs acted very differently around my mother (in a good way) while she was going through chemo.
12) Squabbles between cats and dogs were really present in these sections. So: Are you a cat person or a dog person or both (or neither)?
I enjoy and own both, but I'm an unrepentant dog person. My dog, Loki, is my baby, but I still love my kitties.

5) I really like reading the cat's thoughts. It can be quite funny. Do you think these are convincing cat thoughts?
I think so. Nana's thoughts remind me of things I think my Siamese, Chyna, would say if she could.
6) In this chapter we are introduced to Yoshimine, another potential owner for our cat. What do you think of him and his backstory?
Yoshimine seems like he's very practical, similar to a lot of people I grew up with that had a family in agriculture. It's very sad that his parents didn't seem to want to be parents.
7) Do you think Yoshimine would have been a good owner for Nana ?
I think he would have taken care of Nana, but he said he didn't see cats as pets, so I don't think Satoru would have been happy with his level of care.
8) Yoshimine has already a kitten called Chatran, and Satoru makes fun of him for naming his cat with such a cliché name. What is for you the most cliché cat name(s)? In french it is quite common to call a cat Chaussette (meaning sock), Mistigri or Felix (actually a cat food brand).
Fluffy, Mittens, and Misty (I am guilty of all 3 at one time or another). Long haired cats are often Fluffy. Gray cats are Misty, and Mittens for cats with white feet.

I'm really enjoying the alternating POVs. It gives me a chance to know the characters and their motivations better. I love Nana's perpective.
2. Through the flashbacks we get to know Satoru's personality a bit more. What do you make of him so far ? What did you think about his way of helping his friend Kosuke?
So far, Satoru seems like a genuinely nice person. As a child, he was pretty impulsive, and while his scheme to help Kosuke was certainly not the wisest, you could tell his heart was in the right place. Hopefully his advice helps Kosuke and his wife reconcile.
3. Talking about Kosuke, what's up with his parents ? It seemed to me that Kosuke was genuinely convinced that his father would agree to keep the cat (Hachi). What did you think about his backstory ?
I think perhaps his parents weren't very well off and they couldn't deal with the financial burden of having a pet, but were too proud to say so. His father seemed to like Hachi well enough, but he balked at keeping him when Satoru had to move after his parents were killed because cats can live 20 years. He called Kosuke "cheeky for soneone who has never earned" money.
4. Why do you think Satoru can't take care of Nana anymore ?
I think either he has lost his job and has to move or he is sick and wants to make sure Nana finds a loving home before he passes.

I need to get over my shyness and volunteer.

I'm Bobbi and this is my first Team Towers, but I have participated in quite a few team challenges. I'm 36 and come from the Mitten state (Michigan, US for international friends). I've been taking care of my mother for the past little while so books are my escape.
My favorite books this year so far in no particular order:
1. Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood
2. Vox
3. #Murdertrending
My shelf can be found right here.
Looking forward to getting to know you all and kicking some booty. Remember, go for the heel. 😂

Wow, time really does fly, haha! So, would you be up for us to start reading..."
That works for me!
Yep, BR sessions should be in the theatre for the quest.

Clearly not a fan at all! LOL"
Drag Race, you say? Willem and Juju Bee!

It logged me out in the middle of updating my challenges yesterday. Glad to know it isn't just me.

If you think it's too late..."
Nope, that works just fine for me. :)

Yay, I can't wait :)"
May is tomorrow! Time flies! What day shall we start?
