The mini-challenge looks fun but I guess I don't understand why we would use books for this instead of regular goals when this is a fun challenge and not for points? And now I see that we can claim double points if finish a word. Still seems more complicated than it needs to be.

Checked our goalless books, nothing...."

NEW GOAL: Read a book which has the main location (setting) as Asia"
I'd rather read a non-fiction book. :D

I don't really like answering the DQs so unless I'm very behind in the book, I just try to respond to what people are saying and post my opinions. But I do volunteer to write questions because the extra points are awesome. :D

I had serious troubles with that book, althou..."
Do you think you will read (or maybe you already have) more Gaiman because you liked his writing style? I've only read a handful of his books but this one definitely lacked the story of most of his others.

Chapters 9 - 13
12) The Summoning is a truth spell. Were you surprised to find out that both Agnieszka and Kasia had secret hatred and jealousy towards each other? That doesn't seem to be normal feelings between two best friends...
Seems normal to me considering the situation. Kasia was special her whole life, then all of a sudden she wasn't special anymore. Her purpose, despite the fact it was a bad one was taken away. Of course she would be angry and jealous. And Agnieszka was always less important than Kasia, there was going to be some jealousy. And let's remember these are teenage girls - jealousy is a natural expression.
13) Agnieszka and the Dragon work another spell together, but this time things get pretty romantic, even ending in a kiss! Do you think it's their magic alone that's making them attracted to one another? Will they end up together in the end?
I see no attraction between them it seems completely forced for the story. I hope they won't continue the romance but it's YA, of course they will.
14) Is it a good idea to go into the Wood to find Queen Hanna? What do you think 20 years of being corrupted in the Wood has done to the Queen (if she's even alive)? Would you be willing to play the hero and go into the Wood to find her?
I can't imagine there is anything of Queen Hanna left after 20 years, she is probably just a shell if she is even alive. I don't think I would be willing to go on a rescue mission. I would, like the Dragon, be willing to try and kill the Wood and put her suffering to an end.
15) I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but it seems as if every time Agnieszka is thinking, the Dragon always answers her. Do you think he is able to read her mind/thoughts?
I noticed that but I wasn't sure if he was supposed to be reading her thoughts or if she was supposed to be such a ditz that she was saying everything she was thinking out loud.
16) The Dragon doesn't seem to be as cruel and violent as everyone believes him to be... so where do you think the nickname "The Dragon" came from?
No idea, don't think we have enough info on his past to figure this out.
Discussion Questions Dec-20
Chapters 14-17 Pages 187-239
18. They don't seem to have much of a plan going into the wood. I was surprised that they even managed to find the Queen, much less that quickly. What are your thoughts on their preparations and planning?
I think Marek is a doer not a planner and he's in charge so they're just going to wing it and expect the Wood to guide them.
19. Kasia seems to be turning into quite the hero. Do you think this was who she always was or did the wood change her to be like this?
I think Kasia was raised to be a hero, the Wood just changed her physically to make it easier for her to triumph.
20. What are your thoughts on the rescue of the Queen? Was it worth losing 28 men? Do you think she will recover?
I don't think it was worth losing all those men, but I"m not a Prince who thinks that people are pawns in his game. I don't think there is any of her left to recover, if anything the Wood has turned her into an enemy of her people.
21. They made it to the city and the townspeople seem to rejoice but the King does not. Why do you think he doesn't seem pleased with things? It made me think that he might have had something to do with the Queens situation.
I think the King doesn't want the woman who betrayed him back. People were probably starting to forget and now it is forefront in their minds again. I don't think he had anything to do with sending her to the Wood, but he doesn't strike me as someone who will forgive and forget.
22. Do you think Agnieszka will be recognized? What do you think her animal name will get to be? They all seem to be predator animals but she's a healer so maybe it will be different.
I think she is a natural witch and they will have to recognize her, but I have no idea what her witch name will be. Is there a healing animal? Maybe some kind of bird?
23. We're halfway through now. Any predictions for the rest of the book?
