35559 i just looked at my reading challenge for this year and this book has a little 2x next to it and i'm like oh god i have a problem lol i mean i guess i realized that i had read it earlier this year but i hadn't REALLY realized
35559 yeah apparently sheen has been a fan of the book basically since it came out and also read crowley/aziraphale fanfic to prepare for the role and i'm just like oh my god you are amazing? #blessed lol

and i actually used to have a 2 star rating for this book but over time i have come to appreciate the good scenes and bumped it up a bit. i still call it a technical 2.5 star although honestly the narration might cause me to give it a real 3 this time. but i know a lot of people really like it so don't let my opinions sway you

i just really like asshole cal and this whole book is basically him going 'am i good person though???' and my reaction is just like 'not really, let's move on'. i mean not that he is necessarily a 'bad' person either but like ...if he needs to do bad things he'll do them and won't worry about it / will realize it's necessary. but ...ya know
35559 oh my god good omens was so good and has since destroyed my entire life. i am literally sitting here as i type this watching old doctor who episodes because hello it's 2007 again and i'm obsessed with david tennant! but god, good omens was so adorable. i was very unsure about michael sheen as aziraphale but he was just beyond perfect. ugh i love them so much.

anyway i accidentally listened to the whole book today lmao so i think i will wait and comment as you guys go along. this one is probably my least favorite of the series [besides the last one that ended on a cliffhanger, ugh] just because cal with amnesia makes me want to shake him until he's a total asshole again lol

although the narrator did a really good job with it as always, and i think i definitely liked listening to it more than i did reading it. you'd think i'd be all over this because the brotherly angst levels are off the charts at least on niko's side, but it kind of ruins it for me since cal can't remember shit.

the fork stabbing is incredible though. definitely one of my favorite parts of the early part of the book.

35559 last year was my first tower teams and it was really fun. is it always based around a particular book series or are the themes more varied?

35559 i'm going to try to pull myself out of my weird reading slump but also i have the strongest urge to rewatch old [relatively speaking] doctor who episodes ...although not tonight i guess since i found out earlier this week that my roommate hates david tennant [howw???] but he works tomorrow so maybe i will watch some doctor who then lol

35559 yeah i have heard a lot of good things about the city watch series as well so i'll probably do that after the witches.

35559 it was okay. i gave it 3 stars and might technically bump it up to 3.5. for me discworld is like ...well i was first going to read them in order so i read colour of magic first and i thought it was soooo boooooring so i decided to try the death books instead.

and i mean i do like them and they're interesting but also i feel like it's just a series of clever observations strung together without much else holding it together i guess? i mean i guess that's pratchett's 'thing' but to me they're just okay and i know so many people absolutely adore them so i feel like i'm missing something. i think soul music was my favorite so far just because all the references to classic rock music were so ridiculous.

i think i'm going to try the witches series when i'm done with death because i'm hoping those will have more than like one main female character per book lol

35559 thanks megan, i will check out both of those if i get into more of a rut lol i actually need The Amulet of Samarkand for the decades challenge as well.

35559 i've only got to finish hogfather and i should be done with it late tomorrow morning

also i hate to ask but i can feel myself getting into a bit of a slump and a lot of the books i was planning to read this month don't fit our letters and a lot of the books that DO are anthologies and i am just so hit or miss on anthologies so i will maybe be able to do one in a week long period but ANYWAY if anyone sees something on my want to read list that would work for several letters for this week then i'll give it a try. i was browsing it earlier but it seemed like every time i went 'yeah i could read that now' i didn't see a way for it to fit the letters, but since all characters obviously aren't listed in the summary i thought some of you might know something i didn't

35559 i've got two more to finish as well, hogfather works for everything and pan's labyrinth has G for sure but not sure about other letters yet
35559 yeah i love the whole roadtrip concept especially with these characters because it's just suuuuuch a bad idea lol i mean sticking robin in a car with anyone for an extended amount of time is disastrous and then you throw rafferty and cal in there too and it's like oh NO. poor niko ;)

and i really like this one for the creepy horror movie moments as well. the scene at the house with the mom and the baby is so gross but so good
35559 i think you're right about this one having the most straightforward plot. i guess there was kind of the subplot with delilah and her pack but it was really small so i'm like mmm does that really count lol

35559 oof, i thought we were gonna have it bad with 3 N's in our word, you've got 3 T's and 2 R's and 2 A's lol
35559 ok i definitely need this book for the upcoming week because we got cinnamon and it has 3 N's in it so here comes niko to save the day lol i'm gonna request the thread for saturday again

and yes thurman just loves to hit us with the family angst. in a way catcher and rafferty are almost worse than cal and niko because raff feels like it's literally all his fault and catcher has a hard time articulating that he doesn't blame him since he can't really talk [i'm sure typing only gets so much across].

and i agree that cal did feel SOMETHING for delilah, even if it wasn't love. i think really he just appreciated that she was so comfortable being herself and also that she accepted him for who he was since a lot of people don't.
