35559 can we choose whether to use the word count or the audio length to verify the length for middle grade books? because i could just continue with animorphs for the series chain thing except the next several are like juuuust barely too short by word count on arbookfind but the audio [which is what i'm listening to anyway] is almost always over 3 hours long

i suppose i'm not a fan but more in the way that none of the summaries of the books even sound interesting enough for me to try reading them so i guess that's more a case of it just not being my thing in general rather than if you thought you'd like it and ended up feeling meh. i definitely know that feeling of when everyone is raving about something and you read it and are just so confused about what the big deal is though lol

35559 i can do a number 10 in series if we think we're going to make a chain that long

Thanks! Did it sound like chipmunks? I hope you were still able to enjoy it.

i found that it sounds much less like chipmunks if you put on headphones so it was still pretty good lol

35559 ok, i probably need the kick to finish it as i've just been slowly meandering through it for weeks now anyway lol it's my favorite in the series but i always forget how absolutely massive it is

35559 i thought the rules said books could be started at any time during TT but must be *finished* after the 15th?

35559 people are routinely tagging things set in the 80s and 90s as historical fiction now and i'm just like NO! lol

35559 yeah that's basically where i'm at too. i'm still holding onto the last chapter of when the night bells ring in case though lol and i'm also reading another non fiction book so that will be easy to stop a bit early as well

35559 i'm planning on finishing the 3 books i have on the spreadsheet before the end of the month. still finding it pretty hard to stay motivated but i think i should be able to manage it.

35559 just popping in to say that i am in fact still here even though i'm quiet lol i don't generally claim tasks in group challenges before i start reading bc i'm super picky and end up DNFing a lot of stuff [although i have a rule of reading it for 10 minutes or listening for 30 and then deciding so it doesn't turn into a huge time sink] but i'm sure i can fill in some tasks as i go or at least go for the spell it out options

edit: i know it's a month away but i'll definitely be reading the witch's heart though since it was one of my top books of last year

35559 yeah i definitely get that although i usually either reread book series i've already read or try to read some middle grade books to get out of a slump because i don't really read fanfic that's over like 6,000 words so it's not really a replacement for books for me

35559 hi, i'm devann and i'm in the midwest, usa. i've participated in several tower teams and mostly read fantasy and horror although i'm generally open to anything except romance and contemporary/literary fiction.

unfortunately for my reading 'productivity' i feel like i've barely read anything except our flag means death fanfiction for the past month and a half so i'll have to get my brain back in real book mode before the start of the challenge but luckily i've got a few weeks to make that happen lol

35559 there was a challenge in the past where we didn't count pages, i think it was the floor is lava a few years ago? that one was fun if i'm remembering it correctly
Dec 23, 2021 07:11PM

35559 yeah it's interesting to me to hear people say they thought 600-700 page books were a 'waste' since i don't think i read a single thing over 500 pages during the whole challenge [i am also a long book hater in general although i do sneak one in here and there]. but my team was also always still trying to hit our cap on the very last day of the round so i also didn't feel like that was really a problem
