So if I add this one to my TBR, must make a note to blame it on Sophie. 🤭

Yeah, you sent me down a slippery slope I'm afraid. 😅

Will definitely check out more of her books, just trying hard not to rush in an add more to my TBR for a little while. Let's see how long I'll last. 😉

35559 #15 Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

was dithering between 4 and 5 stars and while it was far from perfect, I found so much goodness and joy in it that I decided to go with 5 in the end.

And so it's not always Sammy who gets the blame (and the praise 🤭), this time it falls on Cat, who recommended the U-author. 🥰

Even if it was the UNO colour cover prompt that got in first.

35559 OK, Karen. Bowing to your wisdom 😉 I'll increase the number, but only 5 at a time as I'm afraid it may be counterproductive otherwise.

But I'm still pleasantly surprised at myself. 🤭

It's a lucky coincidence of other challenge tasks fitting my TBR books and a bit of inclination.

35559 MY MONTHLY RECOMMENDATION (and why) for February:

Conclave by Robert Harris , 4 stars, intriguing story
Catch and Kill Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators by Ronan Farrow , 5 stars
Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli The Epic Story of the Making of The Godfather by Mark Seal , 10 stars, FANTASTIC

35559 #12 Rose Cottage by Mary Stewart by Mary Stewart, 3,5 stars
Mary Stewart keeps staying strictly middle-of-the-road for me, no matter which book of hers I read (apart from Thornyhold). I like them, but there are always things that annoy me or keep me at arms length.

#13 Blue Angel The Life of Marlene Dietrich by Donald Spoto by Donald Spoto, 4 stars
Full-Panorama_Picture of Dietrich, interesting and intriguing also from a movie history POV and even if -like me- you are not a fan of hers at all.

#14 Rivers of London (Rivers of London #1) by Ben Aaronovitch by Ben Aaronovitch, 4 stars
One of the oldest books on my TBR and I loved it with some grievances. And I'm going to read the next book in the series (yes, it's been already added to my TBR 🤭)

I'm actually planning to buy the next one on kindle, to test how it's working that way, plus the price os teally low. But not today in solidarity with the don't buy stuff day across the pond (I'm following Stephen King on Bluesky and that's how I learned about it.

35559 So,

I'm (FINALLY!!!!) listening to Rivers of London and (mostly) loving it.

I told Sophie that for some reason as soon as Nightingale stepped onto the scene I picture him as David Bowie and it's indelible from my mind. ;)

Plus, is it me or the welcome echoes of Terry Pratchett (you know, the Bow Street Runners and other stuff, and the irony... definitely the irony, though not the same, of course!) are truly around?

(I just wish Peter Grant wasn't tripping himself up all the time some action is required. Somehow I see why he was originally headed for the Paperwork Pushing Unit. I don't wish for superman, just getting things done right occasionally even if he's just a wizard in training.)
Feb 26, 2025 12:00PM

35559 It's also the audiobook for me and I love him as narrator. :)

And somehow I keep picturing David Bowie as Nightingale. :)

35559 😆

Not really.
Feb 26, 2025 07:35AM

35559 Rivers of London has been one of the oldest additions to my TBR shelf (2017) and now that I'm finally reading and loving it, I feel like kicking myself for not getting there sooner.

BUT, as I saw some similar comments here concerning other books, I still feel like it's totally normal, so there we go. 😅
