(view spoiler)[ I think there will be more Apparat in the future. He did try to get Alina's attention at the ball thing. Maybe there on Baghra's behalf? And The Darkling thinks he's a fraud, so maybe he's a good guy on the inside? Still creepy.

I really like that the love triangle wasn't what pushed this story forward. (hide spoiler)]

Lol. The only people in the book who should have British accents are Margruite’s dad and aunt. And the chick she meets in London. Even in the Londonverse, the narration is still very American English. I can just imagine a Theo “Tally ho, Govna” haha

There are a ton more characters because this is a series of short stories - some continuations of others. But, I read this for the U!

It might take me a couple days to get a copy, so I’ll still be here over the next week for sure. Pretty sure we all have lots of BR for max TT points. And because there are a bunch of great reads going on right now!

YES! I NEED TO KNOW MORE DARKLING!!

Mal - (view spoiler)[ When it comes to Alina is he a clueless male or trying to protect himself? I'm not sure if I can say clueless male, as we don't really know his character yet. He seemed pretty flippant about going into battle, so maybe it's a maturity thing, or trying to put on airs. I think the later. What we know about him is all Alina's version of him/events and that muddles it - part of what makes first person easier to narrator and why I give mad props to authors who use third person POV (hide spoiler)]

The Darkling - (view spoiler)[ Most intriguing character by far. I definitely want to explore his story more. Seems like he will be both a good guy and a bad guy at some point. In my head he walks with a flourish of a black cape. Kinda Darth Vaderish, but quick on his feet. LOL. (hide spoiler)]

Totally agree about the hiding of the power! (view spoiler)[She really fought hard to keep it down. As a child she might have been so scared about this strange feeling anything it tired to manifest, that she subconsciously suppressed it. (hide spoiler)]

And I can't wait to see how the Grisha hierarchy both solves and creates problems for them.

I went back and linked some of my participation for my recent buddy reads and BOM. Totally forgot about that. Sorry.

I'd be up for a Ten Thousand Skies Above You relaxed Buddy Read.

I stayed up late to finish this last night. While it does lead you to want a second book, it doesn't leave any cliff hangers, so it works as a stand alone.
We never really got much of the science I was hoping for:
(view spoiler)[ Margrite did mention a very rare material found in only one location on earth. It would be great to know what it is/how it was discovered/ how it interacts with these other metals to create this sort of portal to jump through. Just a few paragraphs, maybe Theo enjoying the chemistry aspect of this new metal - leading to a nice tie in with the Russianverse Theo being a chemist.
It would have been nice to have a bit more Theo back story. We know he's more wild than Paul and that he's hipsterish. As a love triangle, we got a lot to build a solid Team Paul, but just not enough to establish a true Team Theo. (hide spoiler)]

Thanks, Claudia Gray/Amy Vincent, for writing a story that leads me to want to read the second book, not have to read it because of horribly unresolved plot lines.
