35559 I have been to Canada twice and loved it. I need to do the Niagara Falls touristy stuff.
35559 Okay so I finished reading this book yesterday and have decided it may be too complex for me to understand. It is too abstract which was not to my liking. I really like Mr. Kings books as they pull me in but this one was a struggle to finish reading.
35559 Day 2 Questions: June 23rd - chapter 2-3

8. I am really enjoying the strong sense of place that King invokes through the senses. Can you share a book that you've really enjoyed that had a strong sense of place?
---That is a hard question. The only one that came to mind was The Diary of Anne Frank -- I remember reading it and having a feeling of being there and looking out the attic window and standing there as the workers were in the factory below.
9. At The Way Station, the gunslinger is told to "Go slow past the Drawers gunslinger. While you travel with the boy, the man in black travels with your soul in his pocket" - what do you think this means?
---I feel that he and the Man and Black are connected somehow and that they are actually travelling together.
10. What do you think is Jake's role in the story?
---Jake may serve as a narrator for us to help clarify what the gunslinger is thinking and doing. Through Jake the gunslinger is able to tell us stories of his travels.
11. We begin to learn more of the gunslingers past and what he was like as a boy - do you still see those parts of him as a man?
---I don't think we have enough info. at this point to make any comparisons.
12. We've seen so much darkness in the story so far, it was striking to hear about light when the gunslinger spoke of New Canaan. The gunslinger recalls his mom saying, "the only real beauty is order and love and light" - do you think there is hope in this world for love and light?
---I think of biblical verses as I read that and know that love and light exist together with hate and hopelessness.

35559 Good afternoon guys. I hope to go to Puerto Rico for my vacation at the end of July --- that seems so far away.

Anyway --- I have finished off with one of my group challenges (am currently in 2 person team challenge). I have decided not to sign up for anymore team challenges so that I can focus on this one and finish reading books that I want to not to fulfill any challenges. There are some good team challenges coming up for summer but I don't want to overwhelm myself as I think that may contribute to less reading for me.

Have a good week guys. Finally saw the Specialist and should be getting results back from Thyroid sonogram. He was not too concerned that there was any problems so hopefully all is good. Thanks for all your good wishes.

35559 Finished The Gunslinger. Even though I love Mr. King and his books this was not my cup of tea. Too abstract for me, reminds me of poetry.

35559 Day One Questions -

1. I love the first line of this book, “The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.” What do you think? Did it draw you in right away? Do you think it sets the tone for the book?
--- I really didn't think too much about it. I got the sense that there is a quest going on but knowing Mr. King it may get symbolic of something else. It made me curious to see what is going on.
2. Why do you think the Gunslinger is chasing he man in black? Will he catch him? What will he do if / when he does?
--- It seems like the man in Black should be chasing the gunslinger. That will be some standoff.
3. What do you think of the world building or the world the story is set in? I find it interesting that there are so many differences and yet some similarities to our world, like the singing of “Hey Jude.” It feels a bit like our world has seeped into theirs.
--- I feel that it is an abstract world, maybe a dream.
4. What or who do you think the man in black is? He certainly seems to have some special powers, but with evil undertones. Any ideas yet?
--- He may turn out to be the good guy. No ideas.
5. Why do you think the townsfolk were so anti-gunslinger? Was it just because of what he represents as a gunslinger, because he’s a stranger, or because of the man in black? Some other reason?
--- Maybe they are protecting the man in Black.
6. What do you think of what happened in Tull? Was there another way for the gunslinger to leave the town without the destruction that occurred or do you think it was necessary or predestined? When Brown asked him if he felt bad about it, the gunslinger said, “Why would I feel bad?” Do you think that’s just because of his training or maybe he believed there was no other way or maybe he just lacks empathy for the death of others?
--- The Gunslinger does what he has to do regardless of the consequences as he is on a mission.

I don't really like it so far. I thought it would be more interesting based on the book blurb.

that BOM finishes 06/30/17 a little over a week. I got it pretty fast, was not sure I was going to get it on time. Trying to finish off my 2 books for this week and then plan to tackle that.

There are only 3 days of questions assigned.
